GT-R 3.8 vs 370z 3.7

This may have been discussed before but are there any major differences (outside of the .1 liters) between the 6 in the GT-R vs the 370Z? Again outside of the obvious things like the TT setup.

modme 11-30-2011 07:41 PM

Pistons, rods, studs, intake manifold are all different and thats barely touching the tip of the iceberg.

Red__Zed 11-30-2011 10:08 PM

there is almost nothing shared between them

MC 11-30-2011 10:12 PM

same general geometry / configuration and the oil dip stick is in the same location.... thats about it...

marrim 11-30-2011 10:23 PM

there pretty close in price right?:roflpuke2:

Two completely different animals. The die hard Z guys (such as myself) will tell you that with enough time, effort and funds the Z can be made to be way faster and more fun to drive. The GT-R, hey look its extremely fast but if you want the car to do everything for you and you can be the car's accessory by all means. No soul, even if I had the $ right now I wouldn't get one.

NYBladeZ 11-30-2011 10:57 PM

Yeah, I don't like the GT-R...so what.

dAvenue 11-30-2011 11:09 PM

The engine for every GT-R is hand-made. The Z...not so much.

UNKNOWN_370 12-01-2011 12:14 AM

I would kill to do an engine/tranny swap of the GTR in a Z. :)

And the die hard GT-R guys will tell you that with an Alpha 4 mod nothing on the planet will even come close to matching that performance for a street car (1/4 mile in the high 8's) - and that also equates to more fun to drive.

haitech 12-01-2011 09:11 AM

Different R&D time put into each

MattP725 12-01-2011 01:27 PM

Overall what I was getting at was how much modification would it take to retrofit GT-R parts onto a Z chassis... could you bolt up the heads/manifold/turbos up to our short block and tranny. Seems like the answer is not really without some significant time and $$$.

kensin0429 12-01-2011 10:26 PM

All it need is $$$$.......

why would you want to though?? A gtm Z makes 480-520 @ 10psi, a gtr needs 14psi to make about 460 and thats with the extra displacement. So there is nothing special about that setup that it would be worth the money. The tranny and the drivetrain is what rewrote all the record books though

In my world...the extra/difference, an addition of $AUD123,000.00 retail price on-road .
Seriously

That's true, but the the VR has the better reliability because it was designed from the ground up with forced induction in mind. Not saying the VQ isn't reliable, you're just taking a bigger risk and likely decreasing overall engine life by going FI.

Chan Chee Hoe 12-02-2011 06:54 AM

Nissan has just fitted a GTR engine in to a Juke body, lets hope they can put 1 in to the 370z body,w/o the 4WD.

I'd really really really really really really really really really really like to see someone make a 370 as quick as a GT-R

really

Sibze 12-02-2011 10:56 AM

No, like really

phelan 12-02-2011 11:00 AM

trying too hard sibze!!

b1adesofcha0s 12-02-2011 11:00 AM

But srsly like really. It would take a lot more than just power to make the Z as fast as a GT-R.

I want to pull that quote from the bummer thread about how 60-120 is the only pull data that matters...and you might be able beat a gtr there

Sibze 12-02-2011 11:18 AM

Or we could just pull the Prius forum

My thoughts exactly. It's the drivetrain and tranny that makes the GTR so amazing. Sure you can match the GTR in HP but you're not going to put down that power like the GTR does.

The Juke R looks sweet! It looks like they've completed the conversion but they haven't put out any videos of its performance...I can't wait to see how it does.

Yep, on street tires the only way to keep up with the high HP AWD cars from a dig is to be in your very own high HP AWD car!

The ZR1 is bloody fast in a straight line, but it needs more than 1/4 mile to be able to beat a GT-R. It traps quite a bit higher than Godzilla but it doesn't have enough track to pass it.

Mt Tam I am 12-02-2011 01:24 PM

Just imagine, putting $50,000+ into ones driving skills, vs the delta between 370 and GTR.

I know I'd enjoy the spending the money more on permanent skills and fun at the track, than a depreciating asset.

The GTR does kick arse.
