Evo X to 370Z... Who's made the jump?

Hey guys, I'm getting ready to trade my 2011 Evo X GSR for a low mile 2010 370Z 6mt base/sport.

Quick background, I went to the Evo after my 350Z was totaled (in bad weather) last February. I wanted comparable performance in an awd configuration - so Evo it was. Im really having a hard time building a bond with the Evo like i had with my Z though. I love the awd and boost, however, the car feels cheap to me, and leaves a lot to be desired. I don't feel like I'm driving a $35-40k car. Oh, and Mitsubishi service is sh1t. :shakes head:

I am curious who here has made the switch from X to Z. Any regrets? Do you miss awd or boost? Btw, I don't need 4 doors or a winter DD, as I can carpool or work from home in the winter...

Nissan service isn't much better, just a heads up

hdskull 11-19-2011 04:24 AM

I've seen a lot of people who miss the boost. The Z doesn't have that KICK you get with the evo turbo, but it does still go pretty fast(you just don't really feel it).

Depending on what you mean by service, I've had a very pleasant experience with Nissan's service reps. You just have to find the person with the good attitude at the dealership, there's always at least one!

The 370z interior is wayyyy better! I do love the evo seats though..

TongMan 11-19-2011 05:07 AM

I've been in an EVO X and the interior did not impress me at all. Most people, if not all, buy the EVO X merely for the performance. I think you'd be happy in a 2-door sports car if you got no family yet.

I forgot to mention my dads next door neighbor is the service manager at Nissan

The Evo's recaros are nice... I never considered upgrading my seats in the 350, but after seat time in the Evo, I will probably put seats on my todo list for the 370.

Yeah, the interior is kinda shitty. I definitely bought the car bc of its performance capabilities.

I've never had a problem. Depends on the dealer, not the brand.

Nor does it have that KICK you get with VTEC. And thank God for that in both counts.

You are lucky, I have not met a good Nissan dealer (been to about 9 of them). Get a Mercedes if you want real service. Toyota isn't great, but at least their cars don't break.

I feel the same way about Mitsu. I walked in to their dealership to pick up the car, and almost backed out of the deal bc of how sketch the dealership and salespeople were. It wasn't isolated to that dealership either... every one I've been to has been meh at best.

DarkZide 11-19-2011 11:19 AM

I think the Evo 8 was the ugliest car ever made, period. I can actually look at Evo X's without throwing up but it still looks like a cracker jack box car to me. I wouldnt give 10k for one much less 30.

Z it is.

sojirovskensi 11-19-2011 04:27 PM

I think EvoX's front wins, but all the others including interior, Z dominates
Yes, I do love Evo's Kicking boost and it was easier to drive.
I felt like Evo was driving me, but when I am in Z, I feel like I am driving Z.
Plus, Evo has so much tuning potential than Z, that's another thing I miss Evo.
Fun factor=Z, go fast=EvoX
Conclusion=I wanted a fun car and people's attention ;)

jlaughman22 11-19-2011 10:56 PM

I own both a new evo and a 2010 Z, yes interior is better in the Z but the performance is so much better in the evo. I can track my evo with the alot more confidence rain or shine whereas my Z im always worried with grip. Depends on what aspect your going for you it seems youll like the Z more

sfearl1 11-20-2011 08:52 AM

I had intentions of tracking the Evo, but I got a promotion at work (more responsibility, longer hours, etc) and side/contract work has also picked up. I don't have time to get to the track right now, so my goals have changed with the car. I think on a day-to-day basis, the Z will be more comfortable. If/when I finally am able to focus on getting out to the track, I may pick up a cheap 94-95 miata and have a dedicated track car.

jlaughman22 11-20-2011 11:10 AM

i get what your saying i just meant it as a comparsion :) for comfort and materials the Z is better choice

RoshDawg 11-20-2011 08:50 PM

i actually traded an Evo X MR for the Z. I do miss the Evo a lot, it just handled so well and I knew I could push it very hard very comfortably, it was actually quite effortless.
Do I regret making the change? Not at all. Would I do it all over again? I'm really not sure. If you do not like to take it out on the snow then YES I would get a z, but if you like going out on snow or dirt then the evo is a world of fun.
If you only drive on tarmac then z.
If you like to drive on all sorts of terrain then Evo it is.

Havent taken the Evo off tarmac mode yet. I'm trying to get rid of it before winter gets here :bowrofl:

DarkZide 11-20-2011 09:22 PM

I wouldnt want to drive a 30k+ sports car in the snow, and i sure as heck wouldnt want to in dirt.

I agree, although snow in the Evo sounds like a lot of fun.

Coming from a turbo car you might be happier in a 135 or 335 BMW.

Why would you say a 135 or 335 instead of the Z? Maybe 1M, but that's a different story ;)

Nice 8  are you in a Z now or X? Or both?

BMW might make a better DD then the Z.. But the Z def. looks better.
I went through what you are going through in reverse. I had the Evo 8 before and traded it in for the Z .. and was missing the boost so I boosted it and still didn't fall in love so here I am back with an EVO 10 this time. The Z was amazing with the TT kit.. NA it was ok.. felt slow coming from a turbo car. I just need a car I can put through the ringer sun rain ice or snow.. and the evo is the best for that.. my Z was just decoration for my garage 70% of the time.

If you have an Evo you're really wasting your money if you don't use it on anything besides tarmac.
Sorry wasting your money is too strong. More like not using it for what it was made for.

That looks amazing! I would actually say that snow driving is more fun than tracking your car.

Again I really feel that if you have no intention on driving on snow/dirt, you should just get a Z.
Coming from a boosted car I preferred NA

Imperial 11-21-2011 04:38 AM

I think the two vehicles are very different machines in both design and function so I never even thought about comparing them. Sport sedan Vs sports car, AWD Vs RWD, 5 seater Vs 2 seater... And yes, I believe the Evo is no more than a sport sedan (but a damn good one) as Mitsubishi had stopped competing in rally racing since before the Evo X's inception. So I would imagine that anyone that was considering one of these cars would be looking for very specific characteristics from a car that would exclude the other.

sfearl1 11-21-2011 06:28 AM

All good points. I am definitely not using the Evo to its full potential. I drive about 30 miles round trip M-F to and from work. Winter time, even less. In the summer, I go to a few car shows, cruises, 1-2 autox events, and get together with a few friends and my dad - all Z owners haha. I think I've got my mind made up. ;)

Thx for everyone's input. I'm going in Wednesday to possibly trade the X in for a low mile Z. I'll keep everyone posted.

It's also fine to just say you got bored of your current car. I got bored my Civic Si, 350Z, NISMO 370Z, and I look forward to becoming bored by my Evo X MR. It happens.

elmz 11-21-2011 10:13 AM

Since you used to own a 350 you should have enough experience to compare both cars. If you loved your 350(like I did) then you will love the extra power, handling, grip, styling, and nicer interior of the 370.

I came from a 2010 Evo X MR to the 2011 370Z Nismo. The Evo was a blast to drive, but i just could not get over the cheap build quality of it. It was fun while it lasted, but it was time to move on.

My thoughts exactly. I have fun while I'm driving it, but when I get in or out of it, I'm just not satisfied with it. Not like I was with my old Z.

Only another day until I get my new Z :ughdance:

Congrats on the new z! Wish I could have kept both :driving:

24 hour countdown starts now...

KillerBee370 11-22-2011 09:26 AM

I don't know much about the X. I made the jump from a IX and the only thing I miss are the seats!

sfearl1 11-22-2011 10:10 PM

The recaros are so nice. I may spring for a set in the Z.

Leaving in a few hours to go pick her up! I'll post a thread when I get her :D

IERACER 11-22-2011 10:21 PM

I went from an STi to the 370z. Both super fast...both corner well...i think my 370z is lot more comfortable...well worth losing the back seats!

sfearl1 11-22-2011 10:35 PM

Nice. What year STi? I considered trading the Evo for a 2011 STi but I figured I would end up right back I'm the situation I'm in now... wanting a Z haha.
