We just sent you a PM to try and solve this issue. Here is what we sent you just incase anyone else runs into an issue. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Under the stock shift knob there is a small aluminum spacer around the actual shifter. This should be removed prior to installing the Password:JDM shift knob. |

Still waiting on my knob. Its been out for delivery since 9:30 am. Wow its amazing how you can track a package these days, I love it. While Ive been waiting for the delivery I ran to work and grabbed a strap wrench to make short work of the stock shift knob  |

Wha? I don't recall seeing an aluminum spacer...?? |
Alchemy- btw, when you do remove the stock knob, make sure to hold the shaft with vicegrips. the torque you put on the knob can potentially damage the linkage below. and dont forget to put a towel or something under the vice grips not to scratch the center console. :D

btw, that shifter ring has metal clips which will scratch the center console so make sure you put towels under there as well. or do like me, painter's tape the area of the console (couple of layers to make it thick). :D
|
Nah, lift up ring that's around the shift boot and get a microfiber towel. Wrap the MF towel around the shaft, and then use your vice grips on the shaft. This way you don't scratch it. Then use the strap wrench on the shift knob. I wrapped my shift knob first with painter's tape, then duct tape so i could get a better grip...AND it didn't damage the knob.
Here's a nice thread that goes into detail a bit: http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...-searched.html |

Kellyefields, did you have to do anything other than remove the stock shifter? Is your new knob fitting snug agains the shifter boot?

One of our customers came up with a smart idea on how to to keep the shift boot up tight underneath the shift knob.
He used two o-rings and it works perfect. We tried it out and we agree. It's a good solution. If your shift boot is sagging a bit, we would be more than happy to mail you out of few of these o-rings, free of charge =) http://passwordjdm.com/images/products/8341_27.jpg http://passwordjdm.com/images/products/8341_28.jpg |
Oh wow! Thanks!
I'll be sure to let you know if I have a sagging boot! :wtf2: |
humm i wonder what can be done about the mt fuji look at the top of the boot...hummm...

Ok, Im sitting in my Z and removing the knob was a cake walk. Took about 2 min. Im currently looking at this spacer, about to remove it. Boy the camera on my Droid impresses me.

Yes I have removed the spacer before the install. I will try the o ring option but I feel like I shouldn't have to use the o rings to have proper fit. I feel like I have a flawed piece. Is this the issue with everyone else?
|
@Alchemy - Man, look at you! All up in that with yer MF towel, vice grips and strap wrench! Awesome!
