It depends. My S2000 has a vinyl top and it's about 6 years old, original top. However, most of it's life was in Seattle (not a ton of sun) and garaged. I also treat the top fairly often with a product to help block UV. It depends how you take care of it. I think cloth is more durable and quieter.
I do feel that I should have purchased the roadster, especially when one drives by. I was planning to keep the S2000 but just bought an airplane a couple months back so now the finances are a bit more snug. Maybe it's time to start stripping again on the weekends.

If all you want is the feel and thrill of a roadster, I'd get the cheaper cool car, the S2000.
I am in the mood for a convertible too. It will not be a Z. I like the S2000 especially as a rag top, good driver as well but I want what I've always wanted. An XKE convertible. It is like the OP stated That is the only reason I consider the Roadster. Driving that S2k made me realize you dont need to go fast, maybe you can just feel like you are. This is the Jag to a tee.

Yeah I may end up getting a coupe and later on the s2k.
I wanna emphasize I absolutely love the z. I have owned mine for 5 years and I will get a 370. And I believe you folks have made me realize a coupe would be best, with a side of an s2k as a vert.
