Question coupe or roadster? 7AT good enough?

Hey folks,

I am thinking to get the 370Z here in Taiwan. I have a 997 turbo stick in the garage for pleasure. The Z will be my DD. We only have 7AT here. No test drives allowed. I wonder how in the real world does the 7AT acts? How is a touring really compare with a coupe. I always wanted an open top in my life but the climate here are just pure Air is bad and rains all the time. We have like 0.5% of convertible cars in the country. lol

1. 7AT, 0.5 sec gear change. It's not dual clutch. How in the real world when you drive it harsh? shift it up and down very quickly, is it slow? I had DSG before and I say that gearbox is near flawless.

2. I know coupe will be more practical, more rigidity, less weight, lines look better, and it is cheaper! But it will never provide the feeling and sensation you get from a roadster. Also speaking of the turn heads, uniqueness, etc. ( Taiwan only has roughly 25 370Z so it's very unique just to have a one

3. Is the Z a good car for daily usage? did you wish you have back seats?

4. How is the noise issue/rattle on the touring?

5. Why We get 328hp?

6. How does Z 7AT coupe compare with my old Cayman S? (tiptronic) gearbox is garbage.

Thanks!!!!

18", Bose, Navi, keyless, 7AT is what we get here.

1. The gear change itself is very fast when you are in manual shift mode. The problem is there is a delay between when you click the paddle shifter and when the gear change happens. Say you are in 2nd gear under full acceleration. You pull the gear shift at 7k rpm, nothing happens for a fraction of a second then the gear change happens. During the time in between the rpms have risen to 7500. It took me less than a week to get use to it, I just pull the paddle a little sooner. I like a manual better but I'd say the AT is 95% as good for me.

2. If you never get to put the top down you might want to save the extra money and go for the coupe. The top goes down in about 20 seconds though so it's really not a problem to put it up if it starts raining.

3. I use my Roadster as a daily driver and have no problems. I don't have kids and never need more than 1 passenger in the car. The trunk is small, but you can fit some groceries, or a medium suit case in there. There is also a small shelf behind each seat where you can stow some small items.

4. From what I can tell the noise is much quieter in the Roadster. The enclosed trunk seems to reduce the sound of sand and small rocks hitting the under carriage and lessens the resonance of the tire noise. I've only been in a Coupe once though so I have not had a lot of experience for a comparison.

5 and 6. I don't know.

Haven't driven a Cayman S, but every comparison I've seen rates the Cayman as better handling and worth the price. If you found it's transmission inadequate I'm not sure you'd be happy with the 7AT either, though it is an incredible automatic.

If you're worried about needing back seats, you are looking at the wrong car - get a BMW. No one can say if two seats are adequate for you, but they are for every 370Z owner
