That wont help the fat folks that push a car parked next to them across the parking lot just to get out of their car. I've witnessed this a couple of times. The car next to them was physically rocking due to fat pushing the door to squeeze out.

I can top that Ken.

One day a long time ago, my wife and I walk out of the Super Dome, and when we get to the car, I see a woman WEDGE the edge of her car door into the fender of my wife's then brand new Prelude, and as the passengers got in the car, the door edge just scracthed up and down along the fender, pretty similar to my EKG at the time.

It was a group of four overweight senior citizens piling into their Cadillac Sedan De Ville, and never gave it a second thought.

Now of course, if I had tapped their rear bumper exiting the parking lot, they would have been rolling around in the street screaming whiplash!

Want to avoid door dings?
(a) don't park beside a 2-door car-especially one with a back seat as their doors tend to be longer.
(b) look at the edge of the door and see if there are marks on it. If so, find another space. People always look to see if the other car is dinged up as to if it's safe to park next to. Wrong approach. Check their door edges.

And honestly, some people just don't care. A car is nothing more than to get from one place to another for them. I've lived next to my neighbor for 6 years. Not once has he even washed his truck - it sits outside 24/7 and he figures the rain keeps it clean enough. His truck and my truck are about the same age / mileage / original price. Mine is worth $15,000 on trade, he would be lucky to get $2000 for his with the condition it's in. He broke the rear window out last week and hasn't even bothered to fix it (and it's been raining).

to avoid door dings don't frequent places mouth breathers go... don't park up front, thats for fat/lazy people and stay away from poor people who are hating and rich people who could care less...

success

I think it would still leave a mark on the car that it hits, and it would protect the car doing the hit. I'd expect more door dings if this catches on.

I dont think that little device - as creative as it is - will help the obsessively anal folks. People will come to depend on that little thingy and just start smashing in to another car without regard. Even that little piece of plastic (rubber?) will eventually leave a mark if the other car is especially dirty (grind in the grit).

Dang it- it already has me upset!

Everyone already knows that the only true way to avoid dings is to get miata doors installed

my past experiences have taught me to never ever park next to a minivan. Granted they have sliding doors that open, but the parents are oblivious to whats around them and their kids hop out of that door and all hell breaks loose on the car next to them lol

Nice, but it won't do much to help protect us from the millions of POS cars out on the road today. I always park far away (it's healthier too) but almost always find a swarm of crappy trucks and barely running cars parked right around me when I leave. Sometimes I wonder if nice cars have a magnet that attracts POS cars.

I tend to always park next to other expensive looking cars. The way I see it, they have money, they value their possessions, and thus are just as worried and protective of their car as I am of mine. Therefore they will not let it hit. Except for the obese and/or super wealthy; then refer to clause 1 - they just dont care.

Yeah I dont like parking far off, seems like a lot of vagrants like to do this, maybe because they are embarrassed of their crappy cars or because they have a natural inclination to stay hidden because they often steal or do other stupid crap. I dunno, but I never park at the end of the lot. Instead I just always try to at the end of any parking spaces so that at least one side of my car is protected by a median/tree/grassy knoll.

i would still park far away from everyone...the only reason i would want this on either one of our vehicles is when parking in the garage. i park my car on the left side of the garage so i'm always sliding out of the car trying not to bump the wall with the door....

This is stupid, you are trying not to get door dings from other drivers. This crap is to prevent you from dinging others' cars. Aren't u already careful with that? lol
