My opinion is it is not necessary. If you already know how to drive a manual, it gets in the way. If you don't, it will likely prevent you from learning to heel-toe properly. I know a lot of guys on here like it, and you can definitely be more consistent with it, but it is not a skill you will carry into the next car.
