That's the point when you hit the brakes instead of accelerator when the light turns yellow, or assume that every guy sitting at the intersection waiting to turn into your lane is going to pull right out in front of you. Where you stop assuming that you're safe because you have the legal right-of-way. And driving habits? It was always amazing to me how many brake jobs I had to pay for on my kids' cars, and how few they need these days. Relying on the brakes and reflexes instead of judgment and anticipation to keep from getting into trouble.

No doubt there are stupid drivers that lack judgement in every age group, they're just more readily found in that 16-23 year-old demographic.
Ok those are fair points, but really, and kid could hit the gas at a yellow light or take a turn to fast in any car. If the guy bought him say a new GTI, the car isn't as fast, but he could make the same mistakes... even if he got him Toyota Yaris that could happen.

The only point i'm trying to make is that a kid or anyone has to learn these things as they get older and if he isn't anticipating something (like he should be) but has to lock his brakes up and still can avoid an accident because he has great brakes, that's a good thing right?

Speaking of which... i'm on my way home yesterday and saw a car upside down on the side of the road... 2 girls in bikini's and a guy walking around the car so I assume everyone got out ok hopefully, BUT there was no turns there, nothing... I think that cell phones are the biggest issue these days.. kids and just people in general are just typing away and I feel like beating all of them everytime I see them doing it... that's got to be one of the largest reasons for accidents over the last few years. Ridiculous.

Hey folks. Don't mind being "flamed" in the least. You're all entitled to your opinions, which, like all opinions, reflect the opinion holder more than the object of the opinion.

As to my warranty question, yeah, I will get one. But which one? The Zurich policy I was offered by the NJ dealer was especially pricey ($1978!) and as my son will be in Florida, I called several Nissan dealers/service centers there and none had heard of "Zurich," though two said they'd honor it. One service manager suggested I get a Nissan extended warranty (less pricey) to guarantee Nissan parts and so service is available anywhere there's a Nissan dealer. Any thoughts?

I would definitely stick with Nissan. Why take chances with a third party. Remember that the dealer could be pushing the warranty that gives them the most markup.

If Nissan is less, it is a total "no brainer."

RCK, I just wanted to note that you can always wait to acquire extended warranty before the regular warranty expires. That way, you would definitely see based on repair history if you even need to spend extra money on extended warranty. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that 2 or 3 years down the road, your child wouldn't want to move on to another car. You wouldnt get top $$ and the same ROI when reselling the car because of extended warranty.

When buying my other Nissan (Nissan whore here), the salesman was pushing hard for the extended warranty purchase ($4000) which I declined given that I could purchase it anytime up to the day the manufacturer warranty expires. it is going on 4 years 65k miles and no issues (knock on wood).
