I thought this car comes with traction control. So what does this traction control do in the snow?

I wish 370z comes with AWD like the GT-R, but not its price tag.

in all honesty, how fast are you guys actually driving when its in those conditions? i cant speak from experience with my Z, but with my old Accent, driving in the snow at a low speed, it did quite well (even in the big snow storms we had here in MD last year) i guess it comes down to comfortability with your car and your ability to handle a slide here and there, but i had no trouble with my accent...

with plowed roads and a little ice/snow here and there i was going up to 40-45mph. you should have seen the look i got from all the redneck truckers around here. as far as the traction control, it feels like it retards the engine when it notices the rear slipping or sliding. from starts in the snow you'll def want to take off in 2nd even with the trac control on because no amount of computer assistance is going to push the car when you produce huge amounts or torque on ice. the tires that come on the car are complete **** in the snow, got stuck the first year. this past year i was smart enough to have a/s on it before we got a good bit here.

When there is snow, the Z don't go! For that kind of weather we/I use the wifes XC-70.For crappy weather you can't beat the awd. Yes the Z is a "fair weather friend"

Living in New York you would need snow tires for sure, further south they can get away with a premium all season. The traction control is pretty useless most of the time, but it does help to keep the rear end behind you in slippery conditions. It cuts engine power to limit wheel spin (quite obnoxiously) and pulses the brakes to control a slide or correct severe understeer.

How does it feel sitting in driver seat when the traction control kicks in? Does it give you excessive vibration and noise?

It seems certain degree of damage would do to the engine if the traction control kicks often. Does anything similar to when ABS kicks in?

It is very quiet and safe for the engine. It cuts power by cutting throttle input the same as you would by lifting your right foot. ABS is also very smooth most of the time, you don't get the nasty pedal vibration that older cars typically had. As it is a true 4-channel system it can pulse any corner of the vehicle in varying quantities to help keep you on the straight and narrow.

Dr ives the same as my other rwd cars with snow tires, vdc is hazardus to me as it is extremely intrusive

I park the Z when it gets too bad

If you have a 2010 A4

I prefer the A5 , but I'd keep that

Oh, I saw the term "Obnoxiously" in your previous reply, I figure it must be something dramatic. Thanks for the info.

Yeah my A4 quattro is great in thick snow, but I couldn't burn the tires like you guys did with your Z370.

I just purchased a new roadster, 6m, sport pac and intend to drive it year round.....I'm in Winnipeg. I just came from a boxster that I drove year round and had no problem. Thw 370 has pretty much the same weight distribution as the boxster so with the addition of top notch winter tires for my use (I don't drive to work) it should work out fine. If the weather doesn't cooperate then I don't have to drive it that day(s). A friend has a speed shop and says he can get wheels that'll fit the large brakes and I'll put on michelin snow tires.

It is obnoxious in that it doesn't allow any wheelspin at all, where as the systems from other manufacturers let you get a little slip happening without interfering.
