I got mine with nav. As someone else said it was more for the clean look and easy integration with Blue tooth, ipod, etc. My only complaint would be the bose audio system (with any touring model). I wish it was more easily upgraded.

First, I actually have the nav, so I'm no hater.
It looks fantastic with the car. In fact, the whole interior looks different with it. It was the looks that really sold me. That being said, it's not worth the money. Many roads even several years old are not on there. Keep updating the maps every year or two? Sure, if you wanna spend even more fuckin money. The routes they give suck. Google maps and my phone give faster routes. For example, from my work to home, it want me to drive a straight line there through 25 miles of stop signs, red lights, train tracks, etc instead of going 4 miles out of my way and hopping on the freeway which shaves like, 15 minutes off the trip. It's clumsy to use. Again, I can probably do it on my phone twice as fast. It won't let you use many functions while the car is moving, such as entering in an address or scrolling through lists. As a safety guy, I get the idea behind it, but I often have a copilot who could use it just fine. Again, it takes so long to get an address in there, you can't even really use it at stop lights, because as soon as you move, it kicks you back to the previous screen (iirc). If I had it to all over again, I'd spend that $3k on hookers and blow, and just use my phone for nav. |

I have the Nav, I like the integration, the looks, iPod interface and music box. I don't like the safety feature of having most functions blocked while driving. But I fixed this with a override module. But what I really HATE is the ridiculous cost to upgrade the maps.
Nissan send me this e-mail with a nice offer: "Get your Map update for only (!!) $ 100,- normal price $ 150,-". Not cheap, but doable. This is, until you read the fine print: For '10 and up you can do it yourself with the DVD/CR-ROM. But to upgrade the maps in an '09 Z you have to take the car to the dealer. I called 3 local dealers to see what they charge for the update: 125, 140 or 244!!!. So buy the update code for 100, take that to the dealer and drop another 125 to 244. So a possible $344,- for a simple NAV map upgrade WTF???

I do store music on it.
I refuse to pay a subscription for radio. I love the nav. Better than my wife pioneer I love the integration with the rest of the car.

When Sirius and XM first came out, you were paying for commercial-free radio. Then, years later, they started slipping them in. My buddy has been subscribing to XM since it first came out. Riding in his car, I stopped him one day and said, "What, what was that? Was that a commercial?!" He said, "Yeah, the DJ's need breaks once in a while you know?" I said, "Isn't that what music is for?"

I was a subscriber even with the short "you're listening to sirius radio" plugs they did that rubbed me the wrong way until my favorite station, which was some classic rock station, started playing commercials. I about blew my fuckin top. Called em up and quit. They sent me some questionnaire about why I quit, which I thoroughly filled out and never heard anything about. I figured they would send me a generic Email, or a coupon for a free couple months or something ... nothing. |

Just like regular commercials in movie theaters. What's that about? and I'm paying more every year for a ticket.

Im not cheap, I have had my Garmin Navi for 3 years now and it has not failed me yet. It was only 200.00 and it still works. I have it on my left side windshield. I dont really care for sound of the music or more tech in the car. I enjoy driving it the most without playing around with the buttons. And plus I have the Nismo so it doesnt really come with tech stuff.

If NAVS suction cupped to your windshield with wires running all over your interior or an aftermarket screen stuck down by the shifter is your thing go aftermarket. If a screen sunk into the dash (to prevent glare) with steering wheel controls and system monitoring capabilities then get the OEM
