I think the additional features over aftermarket is a good reason to have it - touchscreen iPod interface, touchscreen bluetooth phone interface, nice status display of range, climate control settings, audio settings, convenience settings, fuel mileage record, Maintenance reminders, integrated in a good position for easy viewing, backup camera included in 2011 with Nav, XM Satellite receiver is included.

I ALWAYS THINK FIRST and still think they are CHEAP!

with all you spent, for another $10-20k you couldve gotten a GTR. cheapass. :stirthepot:

we, (wife and i), did not get the NAV/touring package, and honestly we wish we did after having the nav/leather package in the maxima. we use the music box a lot. every now and then we use the nav and it's nice to know we have it....i wish we had the nav in the Z for the integration as others have stated.

get the NAV!

all the cool kids do.

I wanted the Nav as well, I personally think its worth it. But I didn't want to get the touring package just to get the Nav. If Nissan provided the Nav option on the Base, I would have spent the 3k.

There is no way it is worth 3K however I would probably get it if I were doing it all over again

Well, lets consider the alternative which is an aftermarket setup.

Now the 3K integrated setup.

BTW, to be fair I tried to find equal quality images. Anyway, what anyone deems worthy of their money is none of my business. I agree, I would never spend 3K on the nav unit alone. But you have to consider everything you're getting which includes, flush look, proper location, integration with climate control, steering wheel buttons, etc... you'll never achieve these with an aftermarket setup for 3K.

Love my NAV.

In my opinion, the NAV system is not worth the price. Nissan lists 9 key features of the package. Let's look at them.

USB Connectivity - great feature, pretty much standard on every after-market double-DIN system

XM Traffic
XM Weather
Zagat - These are cool, especially at first. But smart phones have these and better. It will also run you $30+ per month to keep these features.

9.3GB Music box - Really? Less than 10GB? You already have USB, why is this a feature?

Navigation - Integrated touch screen or not, there's no excuse for this being a $2000 option anymore. Portable units are so cheap these days that it doesn't even pay to upgrade the maps anymore.

Bluetooth - Great feature. But it's insanely cheap and simple these days. Should be included, or a cheap dealer installed option.

DVD playback - Again, really??? You can play movies while parked? A portable DVD player is under $200, plugs into the 12V jack, and can be used while driving (by the passenger).

Nissan did a great job integrating the system into the Z, and it's really easy to use all the features. But it's just too expensive.

That said, I do have the NAV package in my Roadster. But I got one of the last 2010's in the May special sale, and the only one I could get with the packages I wanted had the NAV also. I told them I'd only take it if the price of the NAV was taken out, and it was.

And the third option, which is no nav, which is also a viable option for plenty of drivers.

mines not a DD, so i never really need nav...although it does make the console look nicer.

I disagree. I think the cubby looks better.

Love my Nav, no regrets whatsoever.

I do use the GPS often since I've been doing a lot of travel to unfamiliar places :driving: these past couple of years and the voice + bluetooth integration is great.

They passed a law in Maryland not long ago that made handsfree mandatory, although everyone pretty much ignores it and still uses their handsets, which pisses me off  because I wind up getting cut off frequently by unattentive people yapping on their phones in their Escalades , but that's another story.

On the other hand, I've never used the music box (I have my iPod that I've already ripped all my CDs to). Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever used the CD player either . I mostly just use the XM, FM, and iPod.

I'd say go with it if you want its features. Gives the interior that nice finished (sort of luxary) touch.
