Extended warranties make a lot money for the manufacturer, as much as selling the car in the first place if there are big sales incentives. That should tell you something obvious: the vast majority of the time, it will be a losing gamble for you. Of course there are always cases where it payed off for an owner, but you can say the same thing about playing Lotto.
