Some aspects of this post may offend some members and that is NOT my intention. Please don't miss the main point. A new neighbor moved in a week ago. I saw he had a 67 GTO, totally restored, good, his wife a newer Pontiac sedan, and they also had a Chevy truck. I try not to judge but, having lived in this part of Missouri for 20 years, I have encountered a certain mentality that equates owning "foreign" cars as bad. I introduced myself and told him the previous owners were meticulous in their care of the home. He said, "Of course they were, or we wouldn't have bought it." His tone was a little smart a&$ but I shurgged it off. I told him they put a lot of time in the yard and so forth. He told me of course they did because that is the only kind of home they buy. I tried again. I commented on how nice they and all their new neighbors were. He said I would notice no change with them. I told him I keep to myself, mind my own business, and whatever he did on his property, house, driveway, etc. was none of my business. He stared at me without answering as if he didn't like what I said. I tried one more time. I commented on how nice his 67 GTO was and mentioned I had some old cars I played around with and hoped to get to them one day. He asked which kind? I told him 66 Plymouth Valiant convertible, 68 Barracuda, and a 68 Charger that was maybe more rust than metal. He then grabs me around the neck, I kid you not, and shakes me saying, "Then why are you driving Nissans!" My wife has a Sentra. He asked me again saying I should drive only American cars. So I had had enough. I told him I wasn't buying cars from companies whose unions gave money to elect people hostile to my political interests especially my liberty. He asked what I meant and I told him the 2nd Amendment. He then launches into talking points about no one needing a 35 round "clip." I explained my dad carried an M1 Garand in the Korean War and no one had a 35 round "clip." He then began to pepper me with one question after another asking a new one before I could answer and old one. He then tells me he is from Detroit, is a GM Auto worker, an assembler, and was transferred to Missouri. He told me he was union and a Democrat. He then tells me I am a teacher, (my neighbors told) and how do I feel about that. I told him I am not in the union and wouldn't join one because I don't want labor money going to Democrats or Republicans. He then tells me, "Well, I'm a true blue American. I'm American to the core, I drive American cars, am in the union, and a Democrat." In other words, if you are not like that, you are not an American. He then excused himself and went into his garage. I finished cutting the grass and then backed my red Z out of the garage and washed it, slowly, even though it was clean.

I would have to say that after reading that, I really thought you were in Texas. Talk about red-neck heaven.

You got Canadians feeling sorry for us...why? Get the shiitt straight and build american muscle in detroit how it should be done. Stop crying over foreign car sales. If you build great cars no need to worry about imports. Too many whiners and :crying:

with US labor rates and unions, i understand why we need to go to different countries. its hard to compete with other countries with cheaper rates.

also i am not worry or whining about import car sales. i drive a 2011 BMW as my daily driver. i buy imports, but buy more american. i just don't like it when people are against buying american cars, and they go out and buy imports there whole life.

BS. That BMW will feed more mouths in America than that Camaro ever could, unless you plan on shipping it to Germany every time it breaks, lol

Tell him you support Nissan because of their investment in US manufacturing jobs.

What year and model Chevy truck does he drive? Hope its not one made in Mexico. LOL!

Also let him know that driving old cars doesnt help manufacturing sector much either as many of the replacement parts come from outside the US and old cars dont drive new union manufacturing jobs he so proudly "supports"..

If anything he isnt much of a patriot? Do you ask him if he shops at Wall Mart and buys cheap Chinese made stuff or does he go to local farmers markets to buy stuff and have expensive union craftsmen make everything for him?

I love giving old school "americans" a lesson in global econmics. We dont live in the same world his grand parents did and we arent going back. Time for mr blue blood to become a patriot and embrace global economy.

yeah, but "old school" "Patriots" are impossible to teach anything to. It's just a waste. Kindof like the Import drones who don't realize that many American cars are more reliable than many imports. They are stuck in the past and nothing will yank them into the future.

Try driving around in the south with a car that has a spoiler. Understand how you feel OP. but as far as your first encounter I would not have commented on how the lawn was taken care of by the previous owner. Sounds you were implying that he bettertakejust as good care of it. From your post you seem pushy and annoying. When I meet people im interested in them not their belongings or what they do for a living or what political party they associate wit. After the 1st question went bad I would have said see ya around bye. Your new neighbor may have other things on his mind and doesn't feel like answering questions. I know I don't when a stranger comes at me with 20 q and a's. As far as his dislike for foreign cars, he's ignorant. You may want to avoid him altogether. You're not going to change his view no matter what facts you present. Haters going to hate.

KillerBee370 05-02-2011 11:27 PM

This is not going to end well. I'm guessing he and wifey aren't coming over for dinner anytime soon?

Here's some ideas for ongoing shenanigans that will have your neighbor thinking twice about his recent purchase...

1. Next time you mow the lawn, wear a KKK outfit
2. Hang a big pentagram on your front door
3. When you go to get your morning paper, do so in a pair of Speedo's that are 2 sizes too small
4. Wear a turbin with the Speedo's
5. Get a pet crocodile and keep it chained up on the front porch
6. Post up a couple signs on the closest telephone poles explaining of how a half dozen king cobras got loose from your property (don't forget to offer a reward for return)
7. Sneak a big DUB sticker on the back of his GTO

:D

Every car in the south has a spoiler almost. I live in Louisiana, and if you don't have one, you buy one, lol

Why should OP move when newfag is the one causing all the problems?

OP wasn't the one who committed battery. As I see it, the only thing the OP is guilty of is posting inappropriately large blocks of text without line spacing.

Well there are certain neighborhoods that are more conducive to certain behavioral outcomes... Might be time to move on up to a deluxe apartment... :p

The only real annoyance I have is when my next door neighbor scrapes the front bumper on his Porsche when he tries to get into his driveway. :icon17:

The funny thing is, I get along with most everyone and don't go around looking for confrontations and fights. I didn't feel threatened but it was kindof strange. What I should have told him is that two weeks before he moved in, illegal aliens did the roof on his house and asked him where the money he spends at Wal Mart goes....

I'm afraid not

I don't blame you for asking. It sure is strange to me. Nope, it went down like I said. The irony is I am a private person and mind my business and never bother neighbors or have had probles with them. Maybe he is a hardcore union guy. I guess I'll find out. Stay tuened.

Inspector- there's no irony here. you're a private person. i suggest you not approach him and just wave 'hi' when you see him. expect that he will ignore you but dont feel bad. he will see that you're trying to be nice and making effort.

just give the guy time and space. you approached him on a bad day/bad time and you unknowingly said things he didn't want to hear. doesnt matter if he's a hardcore union guy or not. he has is beliefs and values. dont mess with it as it's like religion to them. :ugh2:

Inspector, I agree with Kenchan (whose Asian background is being questioned, I just learned. As soon as I type this I will call Donald Trump and get him right on that), that if you give the guy space you can co-exist. Don't waste your breath trying to education him.

But whatever you do, don't let him catch you with any imported beer or wine!

Lemers 05-03-2011 10:54 AM

But the plant in Mississippi doesn't count because it's not unionized.

Inspector71 05-03-2011 10:57 AM

This would have made it worse...

My dad only drove GM products: Chevrolet, Buick, Olds, I drove Chevies too, and so did two of my three brothers. But we had los of problems with them in the late 70s and well into the 80s. Our Citation tried to dissassemble itself while being driven. I worked for a city and drove either a Ford or a Chevy and the mechanics said the Chevrolets kept them in business. Maybe they are better but, after spending lots of money on repairs bills and dealing with uncooperative dealers, we all said enough and switched to other brands. My dad, who was a die-hard Chevy man, now only drives Hondas. He has had no problem with those cars. I could have told my neighbor this but the real rub was his definition of being an American. I could have told him my dad was in the USMC and fought in Korea, my mom was in the Navy, two of my brothers in the Navy, and I did my little part state side but I don't believe I have to prove my "American" credentials to anyone nor should I ask it of anyone else.

Lemers 05-03-2011 10:58 AM

I wonder if these douches that it to manufacture. For example, what would they do if a member drives his ford to a GM autoworkers union meeting? Is he un-American or disloyal? Will they strip it to the frame in the parking lot?

kenchan 05-03-2011 11:15 AM

....I ran into almost the same attitude here in Jackson, Missouri (just moved here from Chicago). Have the 2011 370Z Touring/Sport Coupe and, with attitude of some here, you would have thought I just planted a flag that said "BUY FOREIGN"! Thank goodness for my Dodge Ram 1500....

Cheers!
