I don't keep vehicles long enough to put on a million miles. In fact, up here they would probably rust out long before that. Anyway, my point is just that. Most people do not keep vehicles that long to get those high miles. Any API certified oil will adequately lubricate most engines under normal driving conditions. So whether you use Amsoil, M1 or other synthetics or even dino oil, it really doesn't matter what comparisons are made. Although I don't have any hard facts I will state that if an engine fails due to the fault of the oil, it's probably due to improper maintenance eg going well beyond recommended mileage per oil change/filter, never checking oil level, adding additives not recommended by car manufacturer, over revving, etc. I for one believe in following the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule. Knock on wood, I have yet to lose an engine due to the use of any brand of dino or synthetic oil used and I've been doing maintenace for near 40 years. Dino is cheaper than Amsoil or any other synthetic, so why should anyone use it if they will still get well over 100000 miles on their car using just the dino oil? Hype from oil companies is a reasonable assumption why people make their choices for the various synthetics and Amsoil hype from you counts just as much. Today, I use M1 in my Z and my '03 Sportrac. My '02 Spectra still gets the dino. My two Harley's get M1 and my '76 vette gets dino. So why do I not just use the dino to save money? Hype! Well, synthetic does give that extra edge when oil temperatures rise uncomfortably high.

I don't recall seeing anyone actually complain about Amsoil on this forum. Can you provide an example or two?

I was also a M1 person back in the days as well. I used it on everything. But when I noticed they changed the formula and my cars started to have start up noises, I switched to Amsoil and loved Amsoil. I was with them for years, till prices started to go up, and IMHO, wasn't worth the extra cost even though Amsoil was better than M1.

So I switched back to Penzoil Platinum and have been pleased. PP is better than M1 in their formulation and tests and it has made the car run quieter than any oil I have used. I recommend it over M1 no doubt, and if you don't want to purchase Amsoil, get PP which IMHO is good enough!

I'm in Qatar, I visited my local dealer and asked the service manger if they have Nissan Ester Oil. He never heard of such oil.He searched the Nissan USA website and found that they recommended the Nissan Ester Oil. He then checked the service or owner Manuel that came with the cars here and it stated the use of any 5-30 API certified oil.

He then commentated that this must be a brand Nissan USA wants to market in the US.

And whether you use dino or synthetic it's purely a personal choice. But to come in here and say one is better than another based on anecdotes and unscientific comparison tests all of which mean jack sh1t and prove nothing. Not to pick on anyone but I do get a kick out of folks who are, for example, bean counters in real life but on the internet they have a PhD in any topic you wish to discuss and those that believe everything they read or hear without substantiation. My advice - take some time out of your busy schedules and do some research starting with your owner's manual. The Nissan engineers write the manual not the Nissan floor sweepers.

I've never seen so many people on here so into themselves like they think they know it all. You people have SO MUCH TO LEARN. You think Nissan is there to tell you how to keep your vehicle running forever? You guys obviously don't know anything about business. Nissan is the LAST people you should be trusting. They only care about having your car hit 100,000 miles. After that, it's done and they want you to buy another one. If everybody used Amsoil and kept their cars 500,000 miles, Nissan would go out of business, hence the reason for telling you to use inferior oils to help the drivetrain wear out.

If you're whining about the price of an oil, then why did you even buy a Z in the first place? Why didn't you just buy a car for 1/2 the price and just be happy with that?

I barely spend $59/yr on oil changes with Amsoil. HOW IS THIS EXPENSIVE?! ARE YOU HIGH?!

Saying that Amsoil is expensive and then driving around in a $40,000+ car is such an OXYMORON if I have ever seen one.

$59 is what it costs me for 5 quarts and 1 filter and I am DONE for the entire year with Amsoil.

Add up what you're wasting on Mobil 1, RP or RL all year and I can bet you it's a hell of a lot more than $59 bucks.

I use 5 quarts of the 5W30 and an EAO12 oil filter on my '05 350Z. $59 includes tax and shipping... that's OUT THE DOOR delivered to my porch.

Amsoil is $8-9 a quart while PP and M1 are around $22 for a 5 quart container for oil that does just as good in the 5k miles for that change. There is no whining, it's called being smart with your money.

Also I won't go a whole year without changing my oil, even on Amsoil. Sorry to say the VQ is hard on oil and over 6k is pushing it. I also race, and me pushing it past 3-5k is not a smart idea either. Reason why I change more often and oil costs more for me.

But you're wrong. I don't know where you're buying your oil, but I am buying it directly from them as a preferred customer and get everything at dealer cost.

Just find a dealer who will do you the favor of selling it at cost. Some of them will do it. At least the on-line ones will. The local retail shops can't afford it because of the overhead.
