![]() Much like X Games and Olympic Gymnastics and/or ice skating, it's all style points, but there is still a very athletic or skilled display going on. I prefer objective results, racing for speed. I like Rally and Formula 1. Not so much NASCAR. However, no matter what I like, it all requires skill, and it's all fun to watch for someone. |

I don't think anyone has a problem with that, but the fact its a sport is silly really. Does it matter if there's a "competition" going on, or are you just going to see the loud, obnoxious cars sliding around spitting smoke everywhere? Odds are, 95% of the people there don't give a **** about the "sport", and just want to see some cars do some badass sliding, and that's A-OK with me. I can COMPLETELY appreciate the skills it takes to be a good drifter, but I wont ever recognize it as a sport.

Drifting became popular in Japan because with so little space for driving, some guy started this stuff in a small lot. It caught on.

I don't really think that's quite how it got started. Its roots are from rally racing since those cars slide very easy. Then, Keiichi Tsuchiya started drifting while he was racing and it became popular.
