Default Recommendations?

So, I know the first 3 or 4 posts will be 'use the search function' or 'I found this in 2 second using advanced search,' but I am looking for opinions based on my particular situation.

I have a 40th Anniversary 370Z that I purchased in July of 2010. I currently have 2300 miles on it and other than starting it up about once a month, it has been under the cover since October or so. I have begun planning for spring and its oil change. I was going to use AMS Oil for the change and just plan on changing it every spring since I will only drive it a couple thousand miles a year. My brother believes that using synthetic oil is over kill since I will not be racking up miles left and right. I thought, well it will have the same oil in it for 12 months I should get a good brand. His rebuttal to this is that it won't actually be breaking down the oil since the motor will be sitting unused for weeks if not months unused.

Also, my driving is straight 'old lady.' No tracking or road racing. Any thoughts or opinions on this? Thanks in advance!

I'm not going to say "use the search function." I'm going to say, however, that oil is not something that folks around here can seem to agree on, so you will probably get ten different answers.

I just put plain ol' Valvoline Syn Power in mine last weekend. Nothing special, full synthetic.

Synthetic is recommended but not required. Although for a little piece of mind, it's worth it. Sythetics have better protection properties. 12 months is too long I think. Go at least 6.

i use synthetic oil because it seems to do better while hibernating... meaning, it leaves behind a nice coating of oil inside your engine where as dino oil might drip into the pan and the rest kinda evaporate.

i only use Mobil1 silver cap though. the rest, probably over kill unless you're racing or something and need the high temperature performance.

i too only change oil once a year.

I'm sure you could have read all the hundreds of other oil related posts and then generalize those posts to your specific situation. Just sayin'.

You will get some conflict here when talking oil.

I guess I'm not looking for a brand per-say, I am looking more for opinions on if a traditional oil will break down to much over 12 months to provide proper protection even if it is only 1500 to 2000 miles over the year. I like knowing that synthetic will provide great protection for that time frame, but is it worth the cost if the normal oil will do the same. I will likely just pony up and use AMS Oil, even though it will be $65 for an oil change, but it is a $40,000 car, what is $65 a year?
