Default headphone recommendations

I've been using the same Bose headphones for the past year, but unfortunately today, the left ear piece stopped working.

(my headphones)

I'm not sure whether I had a warranty on them.

Assuming I didn't, I'm going to buy some new ones tonight. Does anyone have any recommendations that are noticeably better than the ones I linked?

I want sound-canceling (which those weren't, but I'd like it if possible) & over the ear, but want to pay less than $250.

I was very happy with the Bose ones, but am open to suggestions.

Advice/ tips appreciated.

The in ear headphones are pretty good I have had mine for a while considering that I do not like bose to begin with. I have these but this is another great pair, sennheiser is a great pair as well.
I have these
Bose® - In-Ear Headphones - In-Ear

The shures
Shure - Ear Bud Headphones - White - SE110

And just got to senn'd website

Bose In Ear has good solid bass. Not noise cancelling though
over look that and get it.

I've always wanted the Sennheiser MX W1's.

I don't think that helps your situation though. They're not noise cancelling and they're the in-ear type.

The issue with the ones he has (I have a pair which I barely use) are they break easily and his have, mine have survived because I do not use them.
Noise canceling you are going to pay a premium for, did some quick looking and most start at the top of your budget and many are not that great. Now if you go with an in-ear style you get a form of noise canceling but not everyone can do in-ear (I can only wear mine for an hour at most).

I would throw my suggestion towards Sennheiser for an all around good selection and quality. You could always buy some nice over the ear style headphones which will have a form of noise canceling but not hardware based (just the seal of the headphone against your head).

Thanks for the advice, guys. I definitely want over-the-ear, though. There's a lot of people around me every day & I want to make sure I don't hear them.

So Sennheiser, eh? I'll check that out.

cow, as a member of various headphone forums I would recommend you visit Head-Fi to get an idea of what is out there as far as headphones. At first it will be overwhelming but you will get the hang of it. I do suggest you establish a budget and be careful or you will be spending $1,400 on a pair of headphones, $1,000 in a re-cable job for the headphones, followed by a $12,000 CD-Player, a $5,000 headphone amp, $2,500 in power conditioner, and $5,000 in power cables and interconnects. Yes it is a crazy hobby!

"mrarroyo," thanks for the advice. I'm planning to leave within the hour-- do you think browsing these forums would be a help to me in that short time?

At the moment, I definitely don't want to spend more than $200-- I can hear the difference between my Bose headphones & some cheapo Sonys I've had, but I don't know that I could differentiate between the aforementioned Bose phones I've had & some of the higher end pieces available.

X2 for the Shure.

Everything I buy is either Shure or AKG.

The AKG IP2 is also a good one, I've used them and always been happy.
