You get discounts on parts and are required to plaster ugly decals all over your car and do everything they ask you to do... go to every show... show up for special events... etc. You really don't want that kind of burden because you were too cheap to buy the parts outright yourself. If you can afford it, buy it yourself. If you can't, just enjoy what you already have.
