I bet the meet every saturday at Starbucks and chit-chat. A couple cute giggles and well-timed winks and next thing you know there's a sword-fight in the back alley.

Idiots I tell you!

My Z was stock until I replaced OEM oil filter with K&N and OEM air filters. I also bought an akebono brake kit with red calipers. I also just had a Stillen CBE installed yesterday (and I love it!!). My unmodded Z days are over. Next: Stillen Gen 3s, new wheels, alpine HU with touch screen for ipod controls and some JL amps a small sub. I'll do suspension after I settle on what new wheels and tires I want. :)

no mods here. Aftermarket wheels actually screw up all the hard work and development the manufacturer puts into the car and wreck the handling and suspension.....and this is the most common mod people do next to fart cans. I can understand the reason for an exhaust that adds 20hp, but I rarely run the car to 7k RPM anyway, and with other priorities it doesn't make sense for me to keep throwing money at a car - I'd rather keep it in the money market/ru2k fund/favorite investment and earn 10% on my money to buy the next car, or trip to drive around Europe, or whatever.

Am I the only one here who loves this car for what it is? Join the club! We don't need no stinkin' wheel spacers! We don't need no Greddy lights! My tires will be replaced this weekend and all I'm looking forward to is using every last bit of the tread on my current rubber (yes, I said rubber :hello:).

I would feel the same if 1) this is a rental car or 2) this is a company car. If either of the two I would keep it stock and beat the every living hell out of it!!! I could only imagine!

wafflesarefun 02-12-2011 01:04 AM

the car is beautiful as is, that's why i bought it! trying to make something more beautiful usually ruins it =\

ProfessorDave 02-12-2011 06:24 AM

Well it would seem that we all have love for the Z in common. I'd guess that most of us are "car guys" (or girls), and really appreciate performance, design and innovation of all kinds of cars. That group could be divided mainly into purists and modifiers (those who don't fit into either category and bought the car for some other reason won't modify it or care about the work that went into design and performance). The purists focus on the design and engineering that went into the car and seek to preserve it. The modifiers see the stock model as a starting place for changes and seek to make it their own, squeeze more HP out of it, make it handle better for their use (e.g., tracking the car).

For those of us who are modifiers, we often believe that the manufacturer knows that the car will be changed, and leaves the door open for unlocking performance and HP. I think Nissan left us with fewer performance opportunities, especially with the VVEL being locked down.

So maybe this thead is more about purists vs. modifiers?

I agree. Factory cars are VERY well balanced and to improve upon them EVERYTHING must be improved upon. Since 2005, I have only driven OEM cars except for tint, a wrap, and non OEM oil and air filters and tires (not DR"s, just non OEM rubber).

98intrigue 02-12-2011 09:10 AM

I will always modify my cars. I have since I was 16....9 years later, my modifications just get bigger, better, and more expensive. Haha

My led lights are lighter then the OEM bulbs...that's my excuse I use to think they are "go-fast" parts. Haha

If you're talking about taillights, well, thats a safety mod! :D Nothing wrong with that.

Apparently you like your 'condiments' in your bank account, rather than to be viscerally experienced behind the wheel of a fine car.

So I say again, Mr. Plain Hamburger....

Nissan gives you a tasty flame broiled burger and a decent bun and says, "have at her!'

I for one prefer my car modded to my personal tastes and see no issue with that. Much as others have modded their cars to their personal tastes.

As for bone stock.... that's like having just enough money for the hamburger but not enough for cheese, pickles, relish, mustard and ketchup. And don't forget the lettuce and tomatoes! And then saying your happy with your plain burger when you know you really wouldn't mind a few condiments.... :twocents:

red6spd 02-12-2011 11:12 AM

When I first got my Z I planned on staying stock for the first summer then doing some stuff come this spring/summer. Wellllllll that didnt happen lol. I had all the stuff in my sig within 4 months of getting her.

Mt Tam I am 02-12-2011 12:34 PM

Initially, I too had no intention of modifying my car. I bought the sports package knowing that forged wheels won't be upgraded for my needs. So I was done right? Not so fast: Then the cars oil kept getting too hot so just an oil cooler (an oversight from Nissan) that doesn't show. Then the drone of the exhaust. I can fix that. Then sways to correct the under steer. Well if I'm doing all this why not get coil overs to address a couple other issues such as getting on the gas earlier without losing the rear end coming out of a turn. CAI's were free as a bonus with the above items from Stillen. Next week I hope to have those installed. The rear camera is so low on my priority list I keep not doing it.

I think I'll have it all after this, so a tune is in my future. I would like to say I am nearing completion, but once you lose your mind who is to say what you'll do next.

Falcor 02-12-2011 01:21 PM

I think that its ridiculous to say that the way the designers built the car is the way the car "should" be. Car designers build their cars the way they do for many reasons, mainly marketing. That is why there are different levels of trim.

Also to say that the way the car designed visually is "ideal" is nonsense who its to say that the way I like my car to look is "ruining" it? It is all a matter of taste and opinion, which is what this forum is mostly about.

GZ3 02-12-2011 01:23 PM

Just got in touch with my tuner guy and set up an install on a Tanabe cat back. Took this long only because of all the snow we had here in central Jersey.
No virgins here in this maternety ward either.
