Engine not cranking...
:shakes head:
Woke up today cause I had to move my car, I decided to take her on a nice drive and get some gas! Started her up and let her warm up as usual. Got to my sunoco gas station filled up gas and tried to start her up... :ugh2: Wouldn't work... All I got was the Intelligent Key system warning light. Can't be the battery cause my lights work and it can't be the keyfob battery because my car locks and unlocks... I don't know why the service manager said it may not be under warranty! That's really strange... Has anyone else experienced this? Let me know guys! |
There are definitely a few things to ask first.
Did you plug your key in to the fobgenie? When you hit the start button are you getting any noises? How many miles does the car have on it? I would not rule out a battery first. I have had a battery that wouldn't turn the engine over but everything else worked. |

2.) Doesn't even start 3.) 27,000 Can't be the battery car is barely 2 years old. Batteries last for 4-5 years. :shakes head: I know I saw a thread months back and someone had the same issue... This better be under warranty... Missed classes and I missed my quiz. |
I believe this is a somewhat common problem with the intelligent key. The car doesn't recognize the key and refuses to start. I think the dealership just resets software or something.
|
Batteries last 4-5 years on average. Some don't last that long. My brother-in-law replaces batteries on brand new cars all the time. They are covered under warrantee. I'm not saying it definitely is the battery but it's a good place to start. It really could be a variety of reasons, battery, alternator, starter, key, etc. I recommend having someone jump you to see if that makes a difference.

any mods on the car to void the warranty ?!!
|
NOOOOOOOO!
I have stillen cbe + hfc +cai + Uprev Tune I am so sad.... |

it should be under warranty
none of those parts would have anything to do with the steering lock |

I'm going to read the other threads and tell the Shop Manager the problems that it may be. He probably won't listen to me cause he thinks he's a genuis. |
See this is what you get when you consider a crappy Evo! You're Z came to the forum and saw what you wrote and said "FUK THIS I'M NOT WORKING"
|
Maybe the tune is the culprit.

She gave me the cold shoulder. Dealer did not give me a loaner because im not 25?!:icon14: I was hoping to get the new Juke as my rental but I guess that backfired :bowrofl: |
yah, the tune ECM and immobilizer are two different circuits, i think.
would turning the steering wheel a little bit to unlock and then re-introduce the key help at all? you'd need another person to hand you the key after you sit down and turn the steering. not sure. i cant think of any other way but to call 911 for not starting car. :D |

Sounds very much like the same thing. |
I had a similar problem. Battery would not hold a charge, so occasionally it would not start after short trips.
Happened when car was less than a yr. old. Dealer replaced battery, nc.. |
Thanks guys, thought it was my fault!
I've always babied my Z. |
They think it's the fuse box.
o_____O;; Part should be here tomorrow or thursday so I should expect my car then. I hope they are right. And what could've caused this?! |

Ditto :iagree: |
W/e I went back to the dealer yesterday once I read what you guys said about the steering wheel lock the manager probably thought I was crazy for saying it's that.
He didn't even write down a single thing I said. rofl... O well it's the dealer's money not mine! |

Alright guys so they said that there's no signal from the IPDM to the steering lock relay.
So it's a bad IPDM. What's that? o___O;; |
IPDM = Intelligent Power Distribution Module
Interesting, as there is a current recall on Nissan Titan trucks regarding the IPDM: IPDM recall is official. recall PC068 http://www.the370z.com/members/socal...27371-ipdm.png |
|
|
There have been some other reported failures of the IPDM but they were fairly rare. I'm always suspicious when the dealer says it is a power module, very easy to accidentally short things when you're in there probing.

IPDM appears very easy to replace. just unclip it (or bolt) undo the harness, plug new one in, clip unit it back on. done. |

so from the reading the titan issues, it appears (dont quote me as i dont know the details of the titan recall or the issues with our cars) some kind of vapor exists and causes the contacts in the relays inside to corrode.
so i suppose if you do get stuck and no help around, try unplugging this unit from the car, shake the hell out of it (maybe even kick it around gently on the pavemet to induce vibration to loosen the corrosion), and plug it back in. :icon17: jokes aside it might get you going for that one time you need the engine to start. atleast worth a try. kinda like a defibrillator tactic. :D |

From the Titan recall it appears they are replacing the ECU relay in the IPDM and not the whole unit which is funny since Nissan released a TSB stating never remove any relays and that none are interchangeable. Also seems like it is only for 2006 and earlier, so may not be related?
Some also recommend swapping the ECU relay with the fog light relay (which I guess we don't have?) to start the car in an emergency. |

This is suppose to be the best dearler in our area. Hopefully they have good techs. unlike my other failed experience at a certain dealer.:shakes head::mad: |
Got a voice message saying that it's on backorder and they don't know when they'll receive it.
I'm getting annoyed now this is day 2 without a car. |
yah, i would DEFINITELY unplug that IPDM, shake it real good, and plug it back in. lol :icon17:
let's hope they do a recall. |
Anyone hoping for a recall on the IPDM should first document their case with
Vehicle Owners | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Next contact Nissan USA and tell them this problem is not a rare one off issue, rather, more and more drivers are experiencing it, and point them to the threads on this forum and documented complaints on the ODI-NHTSA website. Then, Nissan may issue a service bulletin to upgrade the failing component or issue recall for known defect upon further investigation. Hopefully Nissan steps up and acts proactively |
Told them I wanted a rental so I had to drive in this crazy weather to get my rental...
They gave me a Altima 2.5 Special Edition... o_O;; |
