I didn't insinuate that becoming an adult meant popping out a fresh unit. I meant to insinuate that adults make decisions such as, "I'm having a child, perhaps I should drive transportation that is more practical and suitable to the task of parenthood."

I'm not saying that he has to trade in his sports car or his balls or whatever. I'm just saying that mature individuals often make such decisions when presented with such situations.

Gotcha. I understand what you mean and agree, now. I thought you were insinuating that once you "reach adulthood" you "must" have a child, or that to "be an adult" you must desire/have a child. I misunderstood.

you learn quite a bit from raising a child so that part you're not a complete adult until you can handle a kid 24/7 (does not have to be your own).

it's very sad seeing middle aged folks that are completely clueless on how to talk to a child or handle them. extremely sad watching some of my wife's lady friends in their 40's without kids that have no frikken idea what to do when a baby cries. to me it's like wtf you dont know??!!

History would disagree with you. Most human cultures generally expect the female to nurture the children, not the male. Most species, actually.

Not to mention that if I didn't have a kid, and don't plan on ever having one...why would I care how to deal with one?

Um...no.

Q. What do you do when a baby cries?
A. Tell its parents to shut it up or leave the movies/wherever.

Q. What is there to feel sorry about with a 40y/o woman with no kids?
A. She can't empathize with you when you whine about your kid waking you up at 0200.

Q. How do you talk to a child/handle them?
A. Why would this matter? You don't talk to them. What, do you drive a van with "Free Candy" spray-painted on the side or something?

I'm 34yrs old, I made my mind up a long time ago. No marriage, no kids, and I intend to keep it that way. It's amazing how many people try to coax you into finding a nice girl and settling down. Not my thing. Some women are put off by this, but some feel the same way. Not everyone is dying to get married and have kids. Some seek it out at all costs. Some fall into it without knowing. And some like me will avoid it like the plague.

It's a choice, not something I'm going to grow into. I enjoy my life the way it is, not the way society tells me it should be.

I know, my grandparents actually mailed me $100 for christmas with instructions to use part of it to take a girlfriend to supper. Of course I will find some random chic to go, as I try to use the gift as intended somewhat, but still, I don't want to. It's just to make them happy. I avoid that mess like the plague it is.
