little help?

If the lights are set to "on", will they turn off on their own if you forget? How long does it take by default?

makes sense.

nope, only when its in "auto" when you leave it on and your turn your car off and open the door and it makes that "beep" noise indicating that your headlight is on.

Default headlight off delay in auto mode is 45 seconds but if you have Nav you can adjust that to 0 (your dealer can do it for you if you don't have Nav). They turn off when you get out and close the door. You can also set them to turn off up to 180 seconds.

Only the OEM navigation, or the dealer can adjust the time the lights stay on. The car should not be beeping if the lights are on auto when you turn it off, they have a delay before they turn off but they do go off.
I never leave mine on auto either

There a light sensor that detects the amount of light it's receiving. During rainy or foggy "daylight" conditions, your best bet is to keep it on manually.

YES, even if you headlights are on, it will turn itself off automatically. I would know because I have my headlights on all the time - day or night. It just takes longer than the "auto" setting.
