Whatever you do, don't jam on the brakes thinking it's going to help. That's when the problems really start. You have to learn to be easy on the brakes and throttle control. Brake early and drive slowly. Keep both hands on the steering wheel. If you start to slide, steer in the direction you want to be in. In other words, if you lose control, turn the wheel where you're looking at which should be away from the wall or ditch.
