Sorry guys but this thread just re-instates my assumptions on 'muuricans.
3k down on a 45k car? I could not sleep at night if I did that. Maybe it's the way I was raised by my parents but I don't buy something unless I can buy it outright (exception of a house of course). I would much rather wait a year or two and save up the money. I guess there is a benefit of living in the moment and pretending to "have" money. Impresses the neighbours, girls, etc. Sure you can tell me I could die tomorrow and never get to experience these things but I personally can't justify it.

I shake my head when I see a for sale thread with a car with 10k in mods and the seller states he has a loan on the car...

I guess it is a cultural thing. If you own a car with payments for 5 years and owe $10,000 on it and it is worth $8,000 you can sell it to a dealer who will usually sell you a new car and put the extra $2000 on TOP of the loan, so you end up with a $42,000 loan on a $40k car.
