That's a good point, it's never been an issue for me before though in other cars... aside from the one where I tore the "useless" thing off and to discover it really did have a purpose
 Obviously the depth of snow you can drive through will be limited by the clearance under the car. If it's a big concern get your self a Power Wagon  Wish I still had mine  I never had anything better in the snow then that
