Yeah, the Datsun 240Z. LOL.

Actually, the Toyota 2000GT of the late 60's has a similar profile to the 240Z, following British sports car styling in that era.

Good choice. I think the new Z design is timeless based on Coupes of the past. Whereas a 80's Vette looks like an old toy.

Exactly. The 370z design was based off the 240z, end of story. Now the 240z was designed from cues off the 911, Jag, MG, 2000GT, and Austin martin of the late 60's. There are even some old photos of the designers working the clay model of the 240z with pictures and models of the 911 and JAG in the background.

1964 Jaguar E Type had influence on many future designs .

Seriously? The 80's was a very VERY dark time for US vehicles regarding style imho.

However, I do like the fox mustang and the buick GN. Just because.

Nissan deserves props for EVOLVING their vehicle. Ford, GM, and Dodge just dredged up something from the past and tried to re-create it, with varying levels of success. I like Nissan's "learn from the past, use what worked, and look to the future for improvement" type attitude vs. the "Well, it sold well before. We are desperate. Lets see if it works again!"

To their credit, GM did evolve the Corvette similarly, however, it's long in the tooth. C7 time was 2008.

More like, "we don't have a creative bone in our body, so we'll just dredge up the past and let the rubes buy the same crap they did 30 years ago."

I just think we have run out of new ideas.

Look at the movies/music/TV/etc. now days. It's all just a throw-back.

To be fair, who ever heard of a muscle/pony car in the 70's running 12's off the dealership lot, carrying a 5/60 warranty, and getting mid 20's mpg highway, having AC and a sterio?

They did do a bit better mechanicalyl speaking...

That's a great comparison shot.

Completely agree. We have run out of ideas in general. Now, we see 70's and 80's starting to influence much again (music/movies/clothing). We have not seen any major inventions that change the way of life in a while.

I actually am starting to really miss the 80's and 90's. GOD, I can't believe I said that. I feel like my dad.....

To me, the Z is a cross between a Porsche 911 and an Audi TT with sprinkles of the original 240Z thrown in.
