Well i can now give a final report on the results of my efforts to tame this beast.
I have done the hatch and doors and the final thing was new Conti tires.. I am happy to report the car if perfect..for me. Its so quiet that I can actually see that any more sound dampening would spoil the sport car experience, as some have said. Actually, i can also understand why some might think I had already gone too far... ...but I do like to take long distance drives with my wife and I just cannot bear the thought of the road noise drowning out her "helpful advice" as to traffic signs, my speed, braking, lane changing, other drivers and such.. Well i now feel I can really enjoy this car to its fullest...sometimes when driving on the back-roads, sometimes driving on the highway and always when ALONE.. This site saved me from what I thought was a huge mistake at first by buying a car that was just far too annoying on the open road...so one annoyance down...one more to go...if you catch my meaning.. |

I went with the DWS because the salesman said, and Guard Dad confirmed, that the S has a chemical in the rubber which prevents it from hardening in cold weather...which can make the tires loose traction. Maybe the DW would have been better for flat out racing and performance but I have to compromise a bit. I would never drive in snow simply for the reason that they salt and sand the roads and that is bad for the car...but it does get cold here and I was told that anything under 45 degrees is getting into a dangerous area...so better safe than sorry.. Good luck... |

Just wanted to report in that I'm about 1/2 way done with mine. I bought the trunk kit from FatMat and it wasn't enough. Spent over 4 hours trying to get it all in real good. Sh*t stuck like crazy, even in little pieces where little pieces helped. Used plain scissors to cut; then my fingers, the handle of the scissors and the roller they sent to push it all down. 5 sheets @ 18 x 36 is not enough material to do it all. I started with the fender wells, then did the front floor portion right behind the seats, up and over the axle area, and a little left for the floor out in the back corners. I still have to do the floor and back wall. Ordered another 25 sq ft lot to finish the rest. If I have any left over I'm going to double up over the fender wells. The ONLY noise I'm trying to suppress is the rocks & pebbles. The tire, road and exhaust noise are all part of the sports car experience for me. Tinking pebbles are not.
By the way, doing this is a HUGE PAIN IN THE ARSE!!!!

My experience was that no one thing does it all but that the doors are the big thing, followed by the hatch and then things were fine but the tires made it perfect ..for me anyway. |
