Unfortunately, you have missed my point. I am not saying the Porsche is not good, I am saying you are paying too much for it, I believe the price is overinflated. You do the sums, the 370 has, what, at least 95% of the performance of the cayman, yet it is priced, what, at approx 60% of its price. Granted the 370 may have some NHV issues, but when I drove one I thought it was smooth as.

I left and looked at the base 370z. I plan to purchase it on Thursday.

A Rolex cost about 6 grand my Omega less than half a nice Seiko a grand. They all tell time.

I think the 370 will make me as happy as my 280 or the Porsche.
Yup, another Rolex basher. Do you even own one for comparison?

Everytime I lay into the throttle, I think to myself: "damn, this is a lot of fun for $36k!".

Do yourself a favor and DON'T test drive the Cayman. I did, and seriously considered stretching, but I would be eating into the cash earmarked for the improvements on our home we just bought.

If you're coming from a 280, you'll love the 370Z - it's a bit rough around the edges, but a lot of car for the money.

My other end of the spectrum was the MazdaSpeed 3 and GTI (did you know these come with a dual clutch transmission?), but fully optioned out, the 370Z was only several thousand more (minus 2 seats).

If you're shaking your head at the price of a P-car, even used, I'd drop the crosshairs down a notch.

Oh, my dream watch is a Patek, but I own a Seiko chronograph that I bought on sale.

I have a real Rolex, but i drive a 370Z. If I traded the 370Z for a Cayman S, I would have to go grocery shopping and pay with foodstamps.

Rolex + Cayman S = No more money = Foodstamps.

We are in our own world. In our Z world, we talk about the next better item - in our case, a Porsche.

Now, be a member of Porsche forum like Pelican Parts or Rennlist. You will see that they also 'wish' or talk about the next better car -- be it a Ferrari or Lambo or whatever.

This is the law of relativity. We all wish or shoot for the next best thing. To be blunt and direct, we attempt to justify "settling" for the compromise car. Deep in our hearts, we wished we all have the extra 30 grand and have bought the Porsche. You may deny it, but deep inside, we all do.

We all dream and shoot for the next best thing. That is just human nature.

Oh, In case you are wondering, I do have a two-tone Rolex and 2 911s. I am currently and actively considering a 911 turbo or a Cayman.

Some people buy Craftsman and some buy McTools wrenches. Why buy McTools? Because some can. I, myself, am a Craftsman guy.

Can you tell me objectively in what way is the cayman noticeably better than the 370z. i would really like to know.

. I am here in this forum with you guys. We should all have a group hug for self-pity settling for the Z and wishing for a Porsche, a Bimmer, .... I never liked Ferraris. I do like Lambo's and Astons.

Will I buy a Lambo or a Vantage? Nah! I am not at that next level of higher dream.

I bet you a billion bucks that if you do have a billion bucks, you would not be driving a Z!!!!

What happened to this thread? Some poor guy asked for some help and his treatment has not been stelar.

I put 277,000 miles on my old 1978 280 Z. The 370 is twice the HP, and the rear end is much more stable, nor does the radiator leave you stranded. The oil temp on the 370 reminds me of the 280 water temp.
Of course 30 odd years newer so everything works. The 280 must have more room in the back (old memory) where the 370 has little by comparison , but the Cayman has less still.

The Cayman has 9 cubic feet in the back, and 5.5 in the front trunk.

The 370Z has 6.9 in the back. Not even close.

OTOH, the NSX had 5.4 so the 370Z feels expansive to me, if a little less functional in shape.

To help you out with your justification, the Z looks more macho than the Cayman. The latter stil looks girly-ish!

Thats because he is saying the cayman and 370z are of the same car. Thats where he went wrong. I did not buy the Z as a pcar alternative. I dont even consider the cars to be that similar. This is like someone settling on a genesis instead of buying a G because 'its the same thing.' There u go, mistaken bargain hunter.

Smart choice on the Z34 sir!
Haha I apologize on behalf of our wonderful members here..
Cayman S is a beautiful car but I don't think it's far to match it up with the Z.
I'd rather compare the Cayman S with the Z4.
Either way, you have made a smart choice with the Z34.
But as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for.
