porsche = for people with money who know NOTHING about cars other than what their friends tell them

Z = for people who actually want a FAST and FUN car without the horrendous european price tag

240sx = for people who want to spend half of what a Z costs, build their car to make 350whp and beat GTRs

Why are people so hung up on the money issue? It almost sounds like pen!s envy, his may be bigger but I know how to work my smaller one better. People who buy Porsches and other high end cars are probably spending less money % wise on their car than we are. And people who drive porsche know cars too, they just dont make them like "too fast too furious" looking like some like to do with their cars.

I can go out and buy a 200 dollar car and make it faster than the Z and paint it and only spend a 1/4 of what the Z cost. To me when you compare cars its about hp and performance, how much the car costs off the lot doesnt matter.

i will argue with you on that...every porsche owner ive ever known doesnt know squat about cars...they bought it because they think its fast...unless you drive a 911 turbo...your porsche isnt anywhere NEAR fast...basically what youre telling me is that the 22 year old blonde who has a rich daddy who bought her a porsche knows about cars???

and yes...the price off the lot does matter...for people who are actually into cars and interested in building them...it matters big time...sure you can BUY speed from a dealership...anyone can...but not everyone can actually BUILD speed

also...one point that i forgot to make (which is outside of my above comments)...the cost of ownership of a porsche compared to a Z is a HELL of big difference

you are generalizing on who you know that has had them. Ive talked to some guys that have have highend cars and they know thier car inside and out and what it can and cant do. I can say the same about people who drive the Z too. Some know and some dont, its like that for all cars. And again you are getting hung up on the money thing. Some people dont care about the money if they have the money. If a 400 hp car that cost 50,000 and 400 hp car that cost 30,00 Im going to compare based on hp not cost. That 20,000 extra wasnt spent on the engine alone but in other areas too. (the CTS V) And the Porsche has a higher reliability rating than the Z. And when you say building a car, do you mean you do all the work or just buy the parts and have someone else do the work? Cuz I would bet that a very small % of Z owners can build a fast car. You find people on the forums who know more about cars and thats why they are on here but there are plenty of Z owners who arent on a forum and drive the Z and dont change anything. Also I will say if I have the income to buy 100,000 dollar cars Im probably in a profession that requires plenty of time day and night and why would I worry about installing an exhaust myself.

While I'm sure Porsche maintenance costs more, that doesn't bother me ($100 oil change on the Z is more than my NSX) - its the way they charge for every option, and everything is an option (be serious - metallic paint costs more?!?!?). Most people would say the Z's tire cost is ridiculous.

No way I'd buy a new Porsche, but I was looking for a new 370Z.

Also, the Cayman S is faster than the 370Z, and I wouldn't call either car slow.

If you have to ask if you are too old for a Z then you probably are!

Default Too Old For Z

You people are not old enough! I am getting a new Z for my 70th birthday and I don't care what people think. I kept my '83 RX7 for 15 years until I drove the '98 Acura Integra. I still own that Integra because I could never find anything that I liked better until I drove a new Z.

My son, who is 43, wants that Integra to replace his late model Saturn, which is no fun at all.

Did I mention that I am female?

Hooray lady! And you are driving a manuel at 70. So many younger folks here have turned to automatics because it's too hard, for whatever reason, to use the clutch. Hats off. to you.
