You're probably right. Given how awesome the new 5.0L is there's no reason for them to go for the bigger engine. I just heard it getting thrown around a bit.

I'd imagine the future GT500 will get the 5.0 with beefier internals and would probably be rated around 600 hp from the factory.

BTW Red, I disagree with you about the interior. I know you have the base so it's different, but the Premium GTs are pretty sexy inside. Everything is on the same level of quality and feel as my Touring interior was. The only thing the GT lacks are the awesome knee pads... those things were so nice.

Oh, and I know you hate the LED fuel gauge on the Z, but I loved it. Compared to the GT it's awesome. I miss knowing exactly how many "dots" of fuel I had. :icon18:

Oh and I miss the Z's fuel economy, too. I could easily pull ~20 mpg average out of that thing with my regular mix of semi-aggressive city/highway driving. With the GT I can pull 16-17 on average. I could probably do a little better but it's hard to stay out of the loud pedal with this car. :icon17:

If i'm not mistaken, the Boss is going to have the same beefed up goodies as the standard 5.0 (forged crankshaft, forged powdered rods), but it'll also have the addition of forged pistons, I see this same engine ending up in the GT500. Crazy man, i've been talking back and forth with a few Mustang tuners and they're saying that the 5.0 block w/o forged pistons will handle 700hp, i'll attribute that to the oil squirters keeping the pistons cooler.

So after having the 5.0 for about 2 weeks I must say it is definitely more fun to drive than the Z. Of course the Z looks better! Installed flowmasters and love the sound!

Oh yeah, my insurance is cheaper too!

True, I had a base Z as well, and base for base, the Z is better. Never got to experience the premium interior on the GT, I am but a lowly ground pounder and im not ballin like that lol.

I hated the LED gauges for the simple fact that with a full tank, i'd still be missing two dots, made it hard to judge how much fuel I really had in the tank.

As far as fuel economy goes, in the city, my GT gets around the same mileage as my Z did (17-18), i'll attribute your worse economy to those 3.73 gears:tup:

holy crap, where did you come from? didnt even know we had another 5.0 guy on the forum here, crazy, but cool nonetheless. I bought the magnaflow x pipe w/ muffler delete and my car screams, children in China have nightmares when I cold start.

I will say that driving my Z was an overall more engaging, enjoyable experience daily driven, but man, the torque and roar of that 5.0 is truly life changing.

I agree that the base Z > base Mustang on the interior. I think the fact that the Z had the leather wrapped center stack and a pretty badass steering wheel in both the base and touring models is what does it.

BTW, I know a lot of the base Mustang guys are replacing their steering wheels with the GT500 one... might be something to consider if you don't care for the base wheel. I think it goes for around $340?

that roar is 'like whoa'. i do not see enough 5.0s; only 4.6's....

Damn you guys for not having the Brembo cars!

The Brembo gets the stiffer springs, shocks/struts, and better tires. This thing is a BLAST in the twisties. Yes, the Z was more precise, but in terms of outright grip they feel the same and interestingly the Mustang has a much better balance to it... It doesn't have the understeer that the Z does in factory trim. The Brembos are killer, too. Braking feel is a lot better.

There are a few things I miss about the Z but the Mustang does not leave me wanting one bit as far as the driving experience goes. It's a BLAST.

Also, I never had the LED issues with my Z. All my dots were lit after a fill-up!

I've never been one to care about the interior comforts, the steering wheel looks nice, but right now my priority is saving $700 for the JLT Intake (its carbon fiber, eeeek!) and Brenspeed tune. I had a spirited run the other day on the highway (up to the speed limit of course) with a Roush and I pulled a car on him, now w/ that intake/tune, next time he'll go home crying.
