I drive an automatic , but I would think you would hold the clutch in while slowing down and shift into first after you stop? Here's some threads on others

Although you can hold in the clutch and coast to a stop, you lose the braking force of your transmission. If you downshift and hold the clutch in, the SRM will rev suddenly. The car is assuming you wanted to go into gear sooner rather than later. This is unique to 370Z's.
