what am i scraping?

i get the same thing on my drive way its the flat metal connector that is about half way back. Not sure its function nor do i have a picture

Not sure its function nor do i have a picture handy atm, but its about 6" wide maybe and just goes from one side to the other (I never bothered to see what it connects to i just saw mine scraped)
