Default Anyone come from an S2000?

Hey all, I currently have a 2007 Honda s2000. It's a fantastic car but the urge to go with something with more torque than a hot wheels car is growing on me. I had the chance to see and sit in one (but not drive) just yesterday and quite liked it. I'm curious to hear opinions comparing the s2k in terms of handling, balance and acceleration and overall quality with the new Z. Also, I have these questions. Does the auto-box have a sport mode like the G37 sport, what is the rpm @ 60mph in 7th gear and lastly, what is the inside width of the center storage bin?

I came from 2005 s2k until someone hit it in front of my house one afternoon and totaled it lol. Anyways....(my first non honda car ever) the 370z compared to the s2k....hmm the power is a big difference....i think handling was definitely better in the s2k and definitely funner to drive and there are big blind spots in the z. The z is much heavier n steering is much slower than the s2k, i havent really gotten used to it yet. Interior totally blows away the s2k, its bigger n its a true keyless, bluetooth, bose stereo system, opt. nav, heated/powered seats, auto dim rearview mirror, and oh cup holders (haha try using a cup holder in a s2k). The center is another cup holder, but theres a glove box if u need more space. I'm still kinda used to the big digital gauge of the s2k. The biggest determining factor for me and what stopped me from getting another s2k was the synchro revmatch...no more having to rev match manually and heel toe and all that...instead of accidently over/under revving the car does it perfect 100% of the time. It's gonna be like cheating in the canyon. lol overall the technology on the z is not even comparable at this point, although life without vtec might be boring tho. But the 370 seems to be mod friendly not like the s2k almost losing power with any upgrade.

Thanks for the reply!
How does the real world mileage compare? I was surprised too see that the epa mileage is the same for both cars. I am able to get almost 30mpg at steady 60mph but around town it can be pretty thirsty.

On my s2k i got about 230-245 miles per full tank roughly 11.5 gallons. On my Z i got about 300 miles with a full tank at roughly 15 gallons. I forgot to mention you would love the trunk space. Also road noise isn't as bad as the
s2k. Ride quality is much better in the Z, but you know you sacrifice ride quality for better handling.

I agree with the above post seeing as I came from a 2007 LBP s2k. I recommend you go test drive the car. GET THE SPORT PACKAGE!!! its worth it!

I just want more power and torque. Oh and a better more luxurious interior. The S2K is really fun to drive and the handling is just awesome. It's got go-kart like reflexes and the sound of the engine just puts a smile to my face but damn I just miss having torque.

I still won't trade it in though. So instead I'll save and keep both.

Well I didn't really COME FROM an s2000 as in OWN, but I did love that car for the longest time. I sat on one and drove one before and just had to love how it feels~ EXCITING!!! This is how much I loved the car... I always had S2K dreams and once I woke up from it, i couldn't go back to sleep because of the blood pumping through my veins.. I was 100% sure that i was going to get one... UNTIL, the 370z came out.. after i researched on the car for days for hours and hours, i just fell in love with the car. The catch was "more HP, shorter wheel base, lighter, shorter, and INCREDIBLY FASTER then the old Z" I mean... How can you NOT fall for such advertisement? I KNEW the s2k was an exceedingly fun car, but i just felt like it was an outdated car. The price keeps going up ($35,500 US) while the specs and almost everything else stays the same for the past 9-10 years... So i gave in to the 370z. DONT GET ME WRONG I STILL LOVE THE S2K, just think its too much money now... its 2009, but comfort and luxury wise its not catching up. I know its a sports car shooting for all out excitement over speed or luxury, but still.^^and all they do is raise the price.. WHICH REALLY PISSED ME OFF since i loved it to death.

I agree with you. The S2000 as we know it now was probably first put on paper in about 1998....1998!!! I was 21 years old! The car has hardly been changed since then...only a mid-cycle face-lifts and a slight bump in displacement. On the other hand, the car still drives like few other cars for the price… which tells you how good it was, and is. I finally drove a new Z and wrote a little review of it here.

Not directly from an S2000, had a 335i in between. I like the Z better. Less noise, more room and it feels great on the road. Also, the trans on the Z has a great feel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what some of you are saying is that the S2K is a better sports car then the 370Z?

The S2K pulls .89g on the skidpad while the 370Z does .99g. The S2k is also a mid 14 second car and the 370Z is a low 13 second car. Also 0-60 on the S2K is around 6 seconds and the 370Z does it in under 5.

Did I miss something? I always liked the S2K but it could never hang with my RX-7 and after reading everything about the 370Z it seemed it would leave my 7 in the dust on straights and turns.

I've owned a '93 FD RX-7 and also a Mazdaspeed Turbo Miata. Never an S2K, but I have test driven one. What all these cars have over the Z is they're much lighter in weight and thus have a "feeling" of agility the Z just doesn't have.

On paper the Z is the better sports car perhaps, but that doesn't mean "more fun to drive" for some. I think that's what's being expressed here.

If you love it so much, why not buy a used S2K? The AP1's are pretty cheap now.

The Z is clearly faster and might ultimately pull more lateral acceleration but the S is better balanced, has more direct steering and road feel. Kind of like the responses and feedback have been slightly more filtered on the Z. I drove my S immediately after driving the Z but this is, after all, just my opinion.

the s2000 isn't about numbers, its about the feeling you get when you drive it. Top down with the wind in your hair at 8000 rpm (i had an ap2) is intoxicating.

As i was saying it felt outdated compared to the Z. A more exciting car, but just felt like the 370z would last longer for me. And who looks at the s2k these days and go "WOW!" No one. 370z is whats catching most people's interests these days.
And also i dont really like used cars.
