Anyway, with that aside, those guys work hard for what they want. Hats off especially to those that save up and pay in CASH. Not many people their age have that kind of discipline.

FINANCING is great.... ......but in the 70's when some of us were your age......that was not an option......Jimmy Carter was president and interest rates were 21%........now go figure the payments on your car with those rates........now please dont take that the wrong way.....I am an old fart just trying to put some perspective on the financing option here...ok?
and I am sure the young guys work hard....and my hat comes off to them......at least they have their priorities in the right place......and they sure do know what kind of car to go in debt for....now dont they.......?

Financing for sure, but you've still got to be making good money to be able to afford the monthly payment if you finance the whole deal. The general rule of thumb is that a car payment should be no more than 1/5th of your monthly after-tax income. I think you'll find that most everyone here puts down a pretty decent chunk of change up front and finances the remainder. I could buy the car now but no way am I going to stick myself with a $600+ monthly payment. That's almost half of a rent payment. Need to put at least $10k down.

But you're right. I don't think any of us here would be driving these cars unless we knew we could afford to do it. So props to everyone.

25

I was 25 when I purchased mine--just had a birthday and I financed the majority. I purchased black with sport package. No one else in my city has one and I get nods from 350 owners everywhere. I have no other bills besides my 52 inch LCD in my living room and rent and utilities. It only made sense to go ahead and buy a car. I am doing my part to support the economy.

I don't. I haven't bothered with any programming in 5 years. Anyway, it seems that you have a great job. I hope you get some bonuses on the side because the cost of living in DC sucks.

paying for the car, the insurance, and the cell phone bill all by myself =] working as a LPN

stinhambo 03-16-2009 04:14 AM

I'd be more interested in how many people are getting long term personal loans to buy one.

shumby 03-16-2009 04:25 AM

^^^ well start a thread about it then and all your questions will be answered.

stinhambo 03-16-2009 01:01 PM

Maybe you're right ;)

joeyz10 03-17-2009 02:11 AM

48 first z. although i had another sports car before Lotus Elise 06

had12many 03-17-2009 07:26 AM

Well, I can't vote because I don't have a Z...yet. Will probably have one in about a year. Waiting to see what the 370 roadster will run before I make a selection.....but I'm 36 now. Closest thing to a sports car I've owned was a '95 Eclipse GS, but I've been drooling over this 370z for the last six months....might have to bite the bullet and "just do it". :driving:

zZSportZz 03-17-2009 08:11 AM

32 here...about to be 33 and this is my first CAR ever. I've always been a truck guy :)

I traded in my 2007 Titan for the 370Z. Its like the exact opposite of the truck lol.

Up to 11 now...where are you other 10 folks? :hello:

Zcar 03-18-2009 09:10 AM

58 and my second Z, although many different marques in between

ZCarGo 03-19-2009 07:33 AM

39..turning 40 in a few weeks. My wife is stay at home with my kid. I pay for the house, the cars, the insurance of all kinds, phone, internet, cable, electric, water, the 401K, the 529, gas, groceries, all X-mas and birthday gifts and whatever else the wife feels like spending money on.

Basically anything I buy costs me double, because I have to spend the same amount on my wife.

My advice to those who are living at home and aren't married yet..Don't move out and whatever you do, don't get married...not that marriage is a bad thing, it's just very expensive. If you do decide to take the leap..make sure they are working in a professional job, are independent without too much debt and are at least 30yrs old.

My 2 cents

57 years young! As long as I can get in and out I will have a sports car.

bluzman 03-19-2009 08:52 PM

Yeah, man. Like the t-shirt says, "Old guys rule."

Anatoray 03-20-2009 12:01 AM

I'm 25, and I can afford one by being mature about my spending and striking a good deal :P Honestly, 35K isn't that hard of a stretch for a college grad with a level head to deal with. Build up a base, and buy it when you know you can afford the payments along with your way of life, or with bearable changes. For me, it meant fewer crazy nights out and no more monthly gadget purchase. I feel the car more than makes up for it.

iceman21_23 03-20-2009 09:45 AM
