Good luck.

Thanks Flash, lol.

As for FHP, those men and women don't play when it comes to cracking down on illegal tint. I am not a fan of too dark of tinting myself when conducting traffic stops at night, because even with my duty light it won't cut through enough to see inside during the approach.

Although I admit, the darker tinting does cool down the interior significantly.

I honestly don't understand the tint laws in NY. 75% seems rather arbitrary. I agree too dark a tint (less than 25%) poses dangers to officers, but aren't we allowed some form of privacy. Tints darker than 75% are allowed for rear side windows for SUV's and Minivans in NY but not cars? Makes no sense. I've seen crackdowns on tints over the years and have yet to find any significant study on how tinted windows endanger the public, other than hearsay. If tinted windows are so dangerous, why do public official vehicles seem to have blacked windows on most of their cars. Why are they entitled to privacy and not the rest of us. In my previous car, the office just told me to pay the fine and hope I didn't get pulled over again. Seems like they just use it to make some money or to pile on the tickets like the OP.

Just my .02 cents.

Sooo true about the snow birds and yeah in general, I did see some people do really stupid things there. Like one kid try to take a hook out of a bull sharks mouth that he caught and dragged up onto the beach...

The only real issue I can see with tints is that when pulled over it gives the person inside amble ability and cover to set up an assault on the officer as he approaches without his knowledge of the present dangers. The average joe schmoe isn't thinking this but since a large amount of drug/gun/whatever runners get pulled over and caught for you're regular traffic stop BS (amazing how many drug runners speed) it makes sense to enforce there rules for the LEO's safety.

I just always roll down all my windows and keep my hands up high and on the window sill so they know no funny business is going on.

I rolled down the windows AND gave the officer my KEYS. Fine for REAR SIDE WINDOWS in a 370z? Thats ridiculous. I just got back from my lawyer - I told him I *am* guilty of the speeding (I have never understood any excuses for that - I pleaded guilty the last time too, 3 yrs ago) but not the tailgating and NOT AT ALL for the tints, in all probability there should be a happy ending he says, says he can probably take care of it all leaving me with a couple of points that will go with defensive driving. Time shall tell. He asked me to take off my current tints and hand him some pictures.

Take off your tint? Pfft, find another red one without tint and take pics of that.

Yep, first thing I do is roll down both my windows all the way. I try to keep both my hands up high on the wheel, but sometimes I forget. I definitely understand where a cop is coming from, because they never know what the **** might go down by a simple "routine" traffic stop. Nothing routine about it.

Does your state have a driver improvement course/school? I would definitely opt for it if it reduces the fine amount and will not accrue points once completed.

I thought about that but read that if you're declaring that you removed your tint based on which your ticket is being "forgiven" or whatever, and if you get caught for the same offense again, the next time the punishment is not the usual one but something more.. I am not sure about the details though.

Why didn't you have him measure an UN-TINTED portion of the windshield for a baseline? At least then you could calculate the difference in the additional tint...

He wouldn't let me argue, when I insisted mine was legal he would just say you can argue it up with the judge. I've called AutoZone but they don't have the tint measuring device.. WHERE CAN I GET IT FROM?

(Anyway the lawyer was very casual about getting rid about the tint tickets.. but yeah I personally am in no mood to take off such light tints when I've had way darker ones with the older car and never had a tint ticket when I got pulled over for speeding EVEN MORE than this time, back then).

I agree, its all politics and money (and the cops power-trip/ego), not really about the safety blah blah when it comes to my tint issue.

Why don't you try googling the number of cops killed every year in traffic stops and then get back to us on that?

And speaking of ego, what kind of guy goes 97 to impress some girl whose standards are so low that she'll trade guys for the weekend?
