I don't get it... so pushing "up" to upshift doesn't make sense??

But 2-3 shift has always been "up" for me...

BTW... if manuals were obsolete and inferior to the 7at technology, then why is the Nismo only available in 6MT??? Anniversary edition? Seems like Nissan has a soft spot for the old dead technology.

I thought for go karts down is upshift...?

Probably because they figured that the people who spring for the Nismo model will also be the people for whom operating a clutch pedal is an essential part of driving (never mind all that steering, braking, and accelerating...).

In short, qualia. For some that trumps raw performance.

What would have been interesting is if they had offered the Nismo with the GT-R trans... would have driven up the price too much tho'.

In racing terms in a racecar on a track it doesn't make sense. With almost any sequential shifter (which is essentially what the "stick" becomes in a 7AT in manual mode) momentum plays a large part in shifting. While accelerating, momentum is forcing you "back" into your seat and hence, an "upshift" should be a simple pull on the stick to shift whereas while braking, all the momentum is being forced forward and intstead of fighting that momentum, it is easier at that point to simply "push" forward for a downshift.

As is the case with street cars with a "civilian" form of sequential shifter, I guess auto manufacturers figure up is up and down is down. As a track driver it makes me crazy but what can you do? Although my DD is not a performance car, it is an auto with paddles and this "sequential" shifter in "manual" mode.

I had actually considered putting a true sequential shifter in my 6MT but I haven't heard of anyone manufacturing the unit yet.

Nostagia maybe. Both the Nismo and the 40th are slower than the 7AT
