Well....happened to me....wanted to called the cops....but when I look more closely....IT WAS A COP!!!
You are generalizing off of one case?
I have ran into power-trip jerk cops whom I almost considered reporting, and perfectly normal, friendly cops. The jerk cops are just about as common as other jerk people. The cops job is multi-faceted, they have to keep your *** in line, as well as save your *** in the case of an emergency. I think we hold a grudge against them just because we encounter the first situation more often than the latter. And to say there is nothing a cop does for you that you cant do for yourself is just ignorant.

I am Kielbasa, and I too... like donuts.

I see the other guy's point - just they can't do it the same legal protections.

If someone pulls a gun, and takes a hostage...you can shoot the perp, and not be held liable.

If same happens without being a LEO, and someone with a permit to carry shoots the perp, they lose their permit, their guns, and face possible jail time, not to mention the civil suit from the person's family who took the hostage (or the person who took the hostage) as well as civil and criminal charges relating to the discharge of a firearm...etc.

Doesnt sound right, I agree. But I think it would cause a serious issue to allow anybody with a gun license to shoot at the villain in such cases. I am sure officers go through a good deal of training for different situations they may encounter (how good/extensive that training is I dont know). What I am saying is on average, a police officer will know how to handle the hostage situation in a better fashion than the average joe with a gun.

We'd have less BG's, is the bottom line.

If a BG knows his *** will get shot, not by the uniformed cop, but by potentially any Joe-Hero that sees what's going on...he'd think twice about doing something stupid.

Attach a LOUD high frequency buzzer to the trigger when it's lightly pressed...perp hears that buzzer, and thinks twice about continuing, meanwhile everyone else can GTFO of the way.

You change the attitude of BG's that the Poe-leese are the problem, to where the entire society is "the problem", and perhaps they should reconsider who the problem really is.... The result is they start comprehending that there is an overwhelming amount of force in the immediate vicinity that can stop them from doing something illegal.

I am not generalizing all the cops use the tailgating "tactic" to give out tickets. But if you didn't know it was a cop; what would you do?

option #1: move to another lane for the car kissing yours to pass?
option #2: accelerate so the car behind won't be so close?
option #3: flip them off?
option #4: prove that your brakes are better than their's?

Option #2, #3 and #4 would probably end up with a ticket.

I encountered these kind of cops at least once/twice a month. I don't have "any" mods on the car, no exhuast, no tint, nothing. There's really no reason to be following without lights on and waiting for a chance to pull me over.

And talking about generalizing, I believe cops are the ones who are generalizing cars with 2 doors or badges with "sport", "turbo" or "Z" are criminals who does 200km/h on hwy. Yes, the car is capable but so are Camry and Fit (no disrespect).

I respect officers who setup road blocks and taking DUI drivers off the road. But question on the officers who hides behind the bushes and jumps out on the road for a stop. And certainly not sure about tailgating tactic.

just my 2 cent

Seriously, especially because if the camry was going that fast it wouldn't be able to stop!
