You can go to infiniti G sites to read about what people say about it or go to one of the mags (motortrend, etc...) and see what they say about it. I have the 5 speed auto with the paddle shifters in my G and love it. I've read nothing but positive things about the 7 speed, faster, slightly better fuel economy, fast shifting, etc... The manual won't be much faster than the 7 speed auto if at all...
I did not know they were same, but I don't really frequent the Infinity boards so I stand corrected.

I assume the gearing has changed some in the switch?

I will have to drive one to try it out.

You would think there probably would be differences in gearing simply because they're different vehicles but I know that G sedans/coupes aren't geared conservatively (they're suppose to compete with cars like the bmw 3 series) so the gearing ratios might be closer than we'd expect... I used to have a V6 2003 Nissan Altima SE and that is the only Nissan/Infiniti car I've driven that I didn't care for the gearing (they were still using 4 speeds in the automatics back then).

I've got the 6MT and it seems like one too many gears. What do you do with the seventh?

It is different ratio's on the 7AT, and the 7th is basically also an overdrive in my opinion and experience

I meant I have one too many gears with six. I am thinking you have two too many with seven.

The ratio's in the AT is of such a nature that the sixth gear is still a very usable gear which you can compare to the fifth in the MT.
