according to this article... an 09' 370z is quicker than an 09' 370z NISMO??!
the article below doesnt make sense to me...
IL Track Tested: 2009 Nissan Nismo 370Z vs. 2009 Nissan 370Z Touring how could a 370z with lower hp and torque be quicker than a 370z NISMO? |
Its been noted in several articles that the Nismo Z doesn't seem to be putting down its advertised amount of power. All it has is a tuned exhaust and ECU flash. Also, the Nismo is several hundred pounds heavier than the base Sport model.
|
takes more than just power to outperform. its how you deliver the power that you have. i haven't driven the nismo yet, but it seems to be a little less compliant than the regular z.
|
oh wow... thats bogus! i wished i knew before i spent an arm and a leg on it! i wonder if Nissan is going to do anything about this.
|
I would guess the extra weight negates the extra power the Nismo has.
Better off getting a base w/ sports pkg. and doing exhaust and suspension mods. |
:drama:
|
The NISMO is less than 70 lbs heavier, mostly upgraded handling components. Extra power is deceptive because it seems to be just at the top of the RPM band. Also, most early tests of the nismos have been before the engine has enough milage on it to be broken in. I've suspected the upgraded tires might be a little wonky but don't have any evidence to that effect, it just would explain the difference of the NISMO on paper comnpared to the actual early testing.

2010 Nismo 370Z - Article - Road and Track
"In overview, the Nismo feels — and looks — more like a race car than the stock 370Z, with sharper handling responses and better acceleration" |
"Believe it, Jerry!" -Kramer
...and plenty of base/sport 370s that put up numbers better than the Nismo were tested before they were fully broken in... |
These "base is faster than nismo" threads always go the same direction, a couple sources get posted where the regular Z is faster, the nismo guys call BS without ever posting anything to refute the point. So I say, let's try something different, and no calling BS unless you have something to back it up.

weight is not your friend...

Please don't turn this in into a 350Z HR vs 370Z thread...who knows what I'm taking about? yeah you know what I'm talkin about...

Faster, slower, same...... I don't care. I have a base black car and love it. I wouldn't mind having a Nismo!
Can't we all get along????!!!!!! :) |

"Vehicle: 2009 Nissan Nismo 370Z [...] As tested Curb Weight (lb): 3,356" "Vehicle: 2009 Nissan 370Z [...] As tested Curb Weight (lb): 3,374 " The NISMO tested was lighter than the other (and for some reason timed as slower). I was sent another article that states the opposite (that the NISMO is faster), I think that the differences (+18 hp or 5%, +6 ft-lbs or 2%, wheels, suspension, tuning) more or less makes the driver and driving conditions responsible for different results |
Also note that the car being compared to the NISMO is the Touring (not the base
model). That is even more impressive because the Touring is 46 lbs heavier than the base model according to Nissan. I'm sure you saw these too: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-p...o-w-video.html, http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...s-touring.html, |

The fact is your really paying a couple grand more for the word "Nismo" on your car. Is it a waste of money? Maybe. Do you have a really cool and rare car? Yes. It's like some chick I know who bought a Civic SI Mugen edition car. It has the same exact engine as the Si with a few aesthetic mods and a "Mugen" badge and they charge an arm and a leg... I think it was more than a base 370z with sport package! Dealers know cars like this will sell because they are "rare" and have a number on each one. But if your buying one strictly on a performance basis your better off doing the mods yourself. /endrant |

After all was sad and done, the Mugen had an MSRP around 28k (I picked up my regular 2 door Si for 20,540 a couple of years earlier). I have seen maybe 2 or 3 Mugen Si's in my time, and I've heard that dealers were selling them for 35k+ because they knew they could find someone who thought it was worth it. To some people, spending money on a "limited edition" is worth it, to some its not. I was expecting a little more out of my nismo (compared to the regular Z) but I'm not complaining, just surprised. I went with the Nismo primarily because of the body (and the rarity I expected it would have). If I were in the market solely from the performance/money standpoint, I absolutely would have gone with a sport and made my own upgrades. |
Well i bought my Nismo becuz to me, it looks way better then the regular 370. It turns heads everywhere i take it. Every regular 370 ive ran i beat, so i dont know why they say the nismo is slower?

to my eyes, there are only 3 production cars that look like race cars: a porsche 911 GT3, a lotus exige, and a 370z nismo. Ferraris and Lamborghinis look beautiful and exotic but they don't look like race cars to me. since i drive the posted speed limits, the fact that it might be slower than a base 370z doesn't bother me :) |
In these threads, there are usually 2 types of people.
The non-nismo owners that want to feel good about not purchasing the Nismo. YAY THE NISMO IS SLOW! The nismo owners that don't want to feel bad about purchasing the nismo. NO WAY, NISMO IS FAST! If I was worried about which car had a faster 1/4 mile, I would have gotten the Camaro 2SS, sorry. |

Some fellas last night commented that at certain angles, the Nismo looks like a Porsche. And the stares I get from peeps. On the Highways, the only time I get passed is when i'm going below the speed limit... Otherwise, I feel like the rabbit in a dog race with everyone following me. 700 more break-in miles and I can turn the juice loose! |
i dont care if the NISMO is slower i would have rather had that if i could have afforded it haha

Reminds me of people who bought the 996 Porsche. They paid extra extra $ just to have a pseudo-better-looking, faster- car. Then they get insulted when regular Joe or Mary say, "Hey man, nice Boxster!!!!":bowrofl::bowrofl: As I said, I have a black base Z and I am happy with it. I want a Nismo so if you think it is slower, call me and we can trade plus a couple of G's. I can go either way with the Nismo or non-Nismo.!!!!":bowrofl::bowrofl: l |
Isn't the turning rotation of the regular 370Z shorter than the Nismo? It could explain why the regular 370Z can turn better. Also, the Bridgestone tires are supposedly better too.
Anyway, I hope both cars get a huge massive upgrades as I might get a 370Z at the end of the year depending if the cars are getting upgrades to compete against America's pony cars. ps. Nismo should get an automatic transmission. Why not satisfy both parties? :driving: |
Hm. 0-60 Magazine (Winter edition) tested the Nismo down to 4.6 seconds. Has the regular Z ever been tested faster? I didn't buy it but the mag's on the newstands now.
