Always? No! How old are you, s0n?

The 427 FE engine was introduced in 1963 to handle the demands of NASCAR, NHRA, and AHRA, as well as street racing enthusiasts. The 427 block was cast from high nickle content iron with a thickened deck to handle the increased higher compression pressures. The design included mechanical tappets for higher revs, and was stress relieved using a slowed cooling process that minimized internal stresses. It used a cast iron crankshaft, and had grooved main bearing journals for improved lubrication. There were forged connecting rods borrowed from the now-discontinued high performance 390. The 427 was the only Ford big-block to use forged pistons.

The intake manifold and cylinder heads were designed and flow-tested to work together with either a high riser, a medium riser, or a low riser induction system. It was available with either a single 4 barrel carb or, for maximum output, a dual 4 barrel configuration with an aluminum manifold. Ford did not publicize the measured dyno Hp of these engines, but it was more than 500 hp for either engine. Camshafts were revised so many times on these engines that the entire alphabet of single characters was exhausted and double letters were used as the last two digits of the part number. On the tracks, the high-riser 427 was so successful that NASCAR eventually banned it. Ford rated the low riser 4 barrel 427 at 410hp at 4500rpm and 476lb-ft of torque at 3400rpm. The dual 4 barrel version was rated at 425hp at 6000rpm and 480lb-ft of torque at 3700rpm.

Old enough to be your son!

Haha, ok, not always, but almost always.

I stopped reading at 1963. I didn't even know they had cars back then! :stirthepot:

Nah, you can't add your mods to make it fair. That'd be like adding suspension mods to the Mustang to make a road course comparison to the Z fair.

Bottom line is they have the straight line advantage. Stock for stock we beat the 2010s, but 2011 will be a completely different story.

And most Mustang guys don't get upset about a 6 banger outgunning them. They are car guys too and understand the fundamentals of power and weight just like we do. And keep in mind that as far as V8s go, Mustangs have always been running the smaller engine compared to other V8 competition.

Then a comparison between the 2011 stang and the Z isnt good either cuz they will not only have 2 cyls more than us but also more hp so either way wont be a good comparison. Now if both were the same liter, then. And its all just a cycle anyway as every fews yrs all companies come out with a new version with more power. Its how they keep us coming back for more, they know were hooked on power like a tweeker to drugs.

At least with the Z, they are getting beat by a sports car. You should look up the reactions of 'Stang owners on their forums when people bring up the SRT-4. They really hate it that a four cylinder Neon can whoop up on them. :stirthepot:

As much as I hate the lil bastards, they're deceptively quick, you cant really tell whats been done to the engine, I imagine they make power relatively cheap based on how many I see driven around here by some poor SOB's. We have privates driving them and I heard one saying something like hes making 400whp with a boost controller, exhaust and up pipe.

Yup! Nothing :owned:'s a street racer like that!

I think I may try this today... should get a good LOL out of it.

I train with UFC fighters but dude do not go around looking for someone to get smart as an excuse to fight them. That is asking for trouble

I would only ever smash someones face into the curb if they threatened my gf or myself/family, not some random kid who insulted my car

it's kinda like the feeling a nice looking single woman would get when she showed up at a party and nobody made any move, even the ones who had no chance.

I guess you are right. It one way, it's a form of flattery, in another way, it's a form of stupidity.

I guess even I am guilty of it sometimes. Had my Z for about 3 weeks now, and last week I got really excited seeing a Ferrari 430 on the highway. He wanted no part of me, trying to get him to have a go. So, I win, right?

Exactly. Whether someone is giving me a wave, or revving their 4 banger at me at a traffic light, it's because I'm driving a nice car...it's that simple.

I'll wave back to the wavers, and ignore the revvers.

idk 400whp on a neon isnt too solid when you have 7 inch tires and FWD
