Do you drive with Vehicle Dynamic Control(VDC) off or on?
I read the manual but still don't understand. it doesn't snow where i live. so does that mean i should always leave it ON when i drive? it's ON by default anyway.
does it hurt if i turn it off? |
Do you want traction control?
it gets very annoying when your in 1st 2nd and sometime 3rd and you floor it above 4k rpms and it slows you down. I turn it off most of the time when i turn the car on its habit now. When it rains, it stays on and stay under 60mph.
On when it rains, off when its not. I like burnin some rubber every now and then..
i only turn it off when i want to push the car, in daily traffic i dont
Most of the accidents reported has been with the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) turn off. Especially if they don't have the experience to control the car.
stays on. the VDC might be a little too much when being a nanny, but thats better than the alternative of squealing my tires and causing a scene unintentionally or getting myself into a situation that involves spinning out.
around here in the city, i'll just keep it safe. |
Depends on my mood, no rain and I feel like opening the car up it is off. If I am just driving down the road stuck in traffic it stays on, also if it is raining.
its amazing how it works though, it damn near steers the car back straight for you, kinda weird.
I turn it off unless the streets are wet.

Does the VDC being off make the car more inclined to loose grip at higher speeds, like excessively? I am curious to feel the difference between it being on and off, but I dare not try on public roads, and I am often tempted to turn it off. This is my first RWD with this kind of power. Low power RWD cars are lots of fun and hardly dangerous, but I am hesitant to test pushing the car a bit with the VDC off. I suppose the best way to learn is to turn it off and feel the car out at lower speeds, and then gradually working upward.
You can light the tires up very easily in this car, so be very careful if you are playing around with VDC off.
If you don't have much experience with powerful RWD cars, I'd suggest formal high performance driving courses. Or, you could always find a deserted lot somewhere and play around with the car. Start off by driving some tight circles at low speed with VDC on and experiment with varying levels of throttle just to get a feel for where the car loses grip and get a feel for what VDC does. Then turn it off and have at it. Whatever you do try to do it as safely as possible... inexperience + powerful RWD is a good way to get yourself (and possibly others) seriously hurt or killed. |

I turn it off every time I start up the car. I've had my Z since July, and you could count on one hand the number of times I've smoked the tires intentionally, so it's not like I drive around like an ***. I just don't enjoy the computer jumping in and assuming that I need help. To me, the way I learned to drive RWD sports cars, having it on is actually more dangerous. Robbing me of both power and control when I most need it.
Just remember to turn it back on when mom is taking your Z to the grocery store... :ugh2: |

Bought my 350 without VDC, now that is no longer an option, I will most likely buy that electronic gadget that turns it off every time I start the 370...

Both my '03 Tibby GT V6 and '03 350Z didn't have any kind of traction control (the Tib didn't even have ABS!) but I haven't found the VDC on the 370Z to be all that annoying control-wise. I do hate when it jerks me around in 1st/2nd as has been mentioned earlier, but I also need new rear tires :P I've felt it kick in plenty of times and as long as you don't fight it it does it's job well. I've done track events and races and such and consider myself a competent driver, but I don't mind having some backup. I only turn it off when I fool around in parking lots or am at the track.
4-5 years ago it'd prob stay off all the time ;) |
Usually keep it on
Normally off. I'm also a firm believer in the Laws of Physics. On or off won't help you if you go too far over the edge.
I keep it on, unless I want to light it up.
Always @ OFF for me. To me the VDC sensors were too sensible for my personal taste and driving style.
rarely off for me. It takes quite a bit of aggressive driving before I even feel it kick in. I'm probably not that talented to test the limits of the car or the VDC. :tiphat:
There's plenty of gravel and some standing water here. It keeps me from applying too much throttle while making turns and hitting the curb.
Always on.
