I am thinking about getting a 370z... your thoughts?

The only car I have ever owned was a 91 celica and it is starting to get a little old. I was thinking about getting a 370z but wanna get some input on it. I was thinking about getting the base model in automatic with splash guards and the aerokit thing cuz i like the spoiler.

1.) Is there anything I should add or take away from this setup?

2.) Is there an option for remote start I am missing?

3.) how does the push button start work?

4.) Is there any general information I should know about?

5.) How is nissans reliablility? (I keep my cars a long time... this will last me 15-20 years if I had to guess... will it be a money pit or if I take care of it (i will) will it return the favor?)

~Depends on what you are looking for, the sport package is a nice addition with a BBK and bigger wheels (also includes the aero package)
2.) Is there an option for remote start I am missing?
~Not on the US models.
3.) how does the push button start work?
~Push the button in and the car starts, for manuals you need your foot on the clutch fully engaged. Not sure on the auto, maybe foot on the brake. Also, the key does not have to be inserted anywhere, just as long as the key is inside the cabin of the car it will start.
4.) Is there any general information I should know about?
~What are you looking for, aftermarket modifications, problems/TSBs, etc?
5.) How is nissans reliablility? (I keep my cars a long time... this will last me 15-20 years if I had to guess... will it be a money pit or if I take care of it (i will) will it return the favor?)
~Not really sure, even the 350z launched in 2003 I believe so it is only seven years old. I have seen some 300ZXs on the road which look & run great, but not very common. Also depends on how well you maintain your vehicle and the miles per year you put on it.

Push button works like this. To start you must have the fob (electronic key) inside the passenger area of the car, such as in your pocket. You step on the brake and push the button (just a quick press is all that is required, you don't have to hold it in) and the car starts. If you don't want to start the car but only turn on the accessory (to listen to the radio) you press the button without stepping on the brake. To stop the car or turn off accessory, you simply press the button.

I will say this, take a test drive, it will probably push you towards wanting to buy the car but it is the only true way to answer many questions people have. From: noise levels, comfort, speed/control, etc.

I've only had my Z for 1 1/2 months, but I LOVE it!!! (Black base with 6 speed manual trans)

I've owned many cars in my life (approx 30 or so) including Porsches and a Ferrari 308 GTS Euro. The Z is by leaps and bounds my favorite to date. Of course it is the most modern one though.

Reliability: I hope she'll be around for a long time. I am still in the break-in period (just turned 1,000 miles) and with the proper maintenance and care, I expect it to last a while. I like to drive hard, but not beat the car (no drifting or burnouts etc.)

If it's like my Porsches, just maintain the car well, and it will treat you right. Fix things right away, change oil frequently etc.

PS I don't think you will regret buying one. Soooo many great reviews, Motortrend, etc.. That's what finally sold me on the car. PLUS, it's just so damn gorgeous!

Welcome to the forums.

1. I would suggest you to add Sports package since you're going to keep the car for a while. sports package includes the front chin and rear spoiler. It also includes bigger brakes, LSD, RAYS lightweight rims etc.

2. Currently there's no remote start option. You must get this done aftermarket.

3. Take a look at the video. You sit in, press the brake pedal, push the start button and car will start up (as long as you have keys in your pocket).

4. Nissan is pretty reliable. Tons of 350Z guys were very happy with their previous model Z. But you have to understand, when you're buying a sports car, you are going to spend money to take car of it. Everything will be expansive than your celica. You can ONLY put Premium gasoline and you're MPG will be less your celica.

**** Definitely go for the Sport Package. Even a non-tracking daily driver will benefit from the pieces. I think you'd really get a kick out of the manual transmission option, too. ****Not available OEM. Maybe it's because I live in a warm climate, but I don't really get why anyone would want this option. One thing to note: This car is a bit high strung and seems to run hotter than other cars I've owned. I don't think warm-up time will be a big problem. My heater already starts blowing warm air about two blocks from my home, with only minimal warm-up in 35 degree weather.

****Just keep the fob in your pocket and you can start the car, unlock it, etc. with just the touch of a button.

**** Shopping for a base model with Sport Package, you should still be able to find some '09s. Grab one -- you will get a great deal (below invoice pricing and sub-4% financing without really haggling at all). It is a great time to buy.

Don't be dissuaded by the exhaust note in the first 1000 miles. It drops lower and growls meaner right at 900-1000 miles, almost like clockwork.

There are niggling fixes like the hatch release that are detailed on this forum. Read up, with an open mind and you will increase your enjoyment.

**** This is my first Nissan, but people in my family have had a few that ran well into the six-figure mileage range with no, or minimal problems. I've owned 2 BMWs, 3 Hondas, 2 Mazdas, 2 Toyotas, a Pontiac, a Suzuki, a Mitsubishi and a Ford. I can honestly say that the Z feels like the best built car I've ever owned. I'm expecting great things.
