Hey guys,

Im about 2-4 weeks away from picking up my 370. I work at a dealer and i know how the wash bay/ detailers treat the vehicles and that once they are getting prepped and ready for delivery. I bought the 370z at the nissan dealership i work next door to. I dont know if i trust them 100% and I dont know what to do. I know their not going to take it for a joy ride. in fact! im going to tell them directly not to gas the car up that ill do it myself. But what im really concerned about is them washing/cleaning the car with **** product of materials that will scratch or swirl up the paint.

What should i do?

what have you done?

Thanks

I've read a couple people actually caught the truck delivering it and took delivery right off the truck. Not sure how true it is, since it's a story from someone else though.

I actually "special" ordered mine and specifically asked the salesperson to not wash and prep the car. They were nice enough to oblige and I took it home and washed and detailed it myself.

I dont see a major issue in you asking them not to wash it. But...if it is already on the lot and open to the public, then chances are it was already washed by the dealers prep department.

If you let them know your right next store, im sure there wont be to much of a problem, and i dont blame you for being worried about the Sh** they use, its terrible If you want some wash/detailing products heres a list of my old Product thread, still really good Paint issues/Solution

My new stuff is coming this week, ordered the Zaino kit (Zaino Store)

My car has had swirl marks on the clear coat since Day 1!!!

I heard they had a black GT-R, and the owner took it for a drive. It got dirty so the guys washed it, and it ended up having swirl marks as well. [sigh]

My dealership really swirled mine badly. I'd ask to do the detailing yourself to minimize the possibility. That, or tell them you expect a professional detailing at their expense if they damage the finish during the process.

Mine came washed, but not waxed or "sealed" or any such horsesh!t. By the time I was ready to sign, my salesperson knew where I was coming from on this stuff -- he didn't even have to ask me. He even reinforced, "hey, this is a $40,000 car -- we'll take good care of it -- no rush, no worry."

My paint is perfect, but then again, it is lighter than black. Perhaps a nice synthetic wax on the swirled cars would repair the fine-line swirls...

Most dealerships will probably won't give you this options due to the fact that they are graded by the manufacturer on the delivery of the vehicle. They want an "EXCELLENT" survey, and one of the questions on the survey is whether the vehicle was clean when you take delivery of the vehicle, if you say "NO", they get dinged...

so here's my advice to you if you want to take the car unwrapped and dirty: explain to your salesperson what you want to do, and tell him that you understand you may get a random customer survey from Nissan, and you will be sure to check that the vehicle is washed and is clean at delivery...and I would advise you to do just that if you get the survey, because it is their job to make sure that vehicle is spotless when you pick up your vehicle, and it's wrong for them to get a bad survey just because they did you a favor...

your salesperson and the dealership will probably not bring up the survey subject because it's frowned upon by the manufacturer, and they can get penalized for telling the customer or coaching the customer on how to do the survey...so it's your job to give them peace of mind if you decided you want them to break their rules to make you happy...

My husband is a technician at the dealership where I bought mine. I had him take it off the truck, pull it into the shop, do the PDI, and then pull it in to detail. His detail department is great, so I trusted them to clean her well. Then I pulled it out of detail and no one else has driven her.

I got my car before they took it to detail.

it was sooo dirty, had like an inch of dirt on it literally. I told them they could clean the windows but nothing else, so that I could drive it home.

When I went in the detail dept to do my "walkaround" even though I couldn't see **** due to the dirt, I did notice them washing and cleaning other cars and you know what they used? a BROOM!! yes, one of those freaking 2 foot wide brooms that you buy at home depot for sweeping the outdoors floor.

receipt for disaster

Hahaha!!! oh crap man! lucky you did what you did!

Well i know these guys next door almost personally! this is the 2nd car i got from them and both timees i have been dealing with the sales manager, because i work next door at toyota. But it looks like more people have opt to have the car cleaned themselves as apposed to them cleaning it. I know they dont use sweeping brooms, lol they actually use sponge's/micro fibre cloths but still. Plus my car was ordered platinum graphite or as its called in Canada carbon silver. Maybe what ill do is walk on over there and have a chat with the guys.. i just dont want to inderectly imply that they dont know how to do their job.. lol

The only fork in the road is that the car is going to come in a few weeks and it will still be freezing cold here. so washing the car myself might have to wait a few weeks.

Thanks for all the input!!
