bcrider,

I'm 71, have been retired since I was 51, am still madly in love with my Bride of 45 years, have owned a few Z's, a vette, and a multitude of various antique and other cars over the years .... and I've been where you find yourself now. I wanted the hot cars when I started out too, and really couldn't afford them back then.

Years of biding my time, working hard, putting away some nest eggs, and staying frugal paid off. We found ourselves able to enjoy some toys over the years, and enjoyed ourselves without getting stupid. Then when we both retired we found we could afford pretty much whatever we desired within reason.

My advice is to forget about the vette and the Z and aim at what you need to do to get financially stable and get that house. Its the mature thing to aim for. Property always goes up in value, cars almost always don't. The house will give you equity, the cars won't.

Then when you are on firmer ground, say 5 or 6 years down the road, you can search out that toy you want. (A friend of mine just found a 2001 Miata with 38 000 km for $11 000. Its pristeen. I sold my 27 year old Nissan 300ZX NA to a 30 year old in order to buy my 370Z It had 81 000 km when I sold it to him.)

The cars you want will still be out there, some searching will be required, but you'll be in a much better stance to afford it and not regret it, not to mention it may also be much cheaper to own.

Its your choice whatever you decide. Just don't get yourself in a bind that strangles what you can enjoy in life. The Best to you!
