Totally this.

I mean of course I'm surprised it's been around this long.

But if Nissan has no soon plans for a successor, it doesn't hurt any of us that there's a surplus of Z34's to go around. It only hurts Nissan.

Depends on your perspective. The last used car I bought was my first when I was 16 years old. It's been new cars ever since. But I usually get my money's worth out of them as I keep them 10 to 15 years.

So, I just bought a new Z. And I'm the weirdo that enjoys that the car is a bit of a throwback. If it's confirmed they're killing it, I might buy another one.

As a Z enthusiast I am thankful that Nissan is still producing the 370Z model. Despite these recent sales reports the Nissan 370Z is a desired and wanted Japanese sports car in the car market today. I am happy with all the Z’s I’ve owned and sold over the years. The perk of the owning a Z as all Japanese sports cars overall they have excellent resale value and are enjoying to own and drive. I believe it would be in Nissan’s best interest to keep producing the 370Z and GTR models and add new body styling, improved performance, make less production numbers, and keep the price range decent so Nissan can improve sales and yearly profit. The wave of the future is hybrid and electric vehicles you can blame the average consumer for this as if Nissan does produce new model 370Z and GTR it will be more of a futuristic style and design.

Apparently the the 370 Nismo still has it charm. I still get "looks" of WOW and amazement from people as I drive by. It's amazing how many "NON" car enthusiasts still don't know what it is! Ask them to point out Porches, Mustangs and BMW's and they have no problem.

keep em shiny and loud, and the Z lives on.

Short version

5. Nissan 370Z

The 370Z coupe and roadster are about a decade old at this point, and their sales aren't exactly keeping Nissan dealers afloat.
The 370Z was basically on its way out, but if the current financial climate at Nissan persists,
it will be difficult to create a replacement from scratch. This means the nameplate is likely to go on hiatus.

enjoy
Maybe if they’d redesigned the Z and GTR years ago they could have created better brand excitement versus the numerous updated SUVs etc. That is the point of halo sports cars isn’t it?

It’s cheaper and easier to order a couple of thousand stickers to get them through another model year.

They're working on the R36, won't see a new Z till that's done and out in production at the very least.

"Nissan could cut 10 percent of its lineup in the next three years. Here are the most likely candidates."

Unless i missed it, this is just autoweek's opinions? not of what Nissan has suggested or confirmed. It doesn't even mention if Nissan actually suggested cutting any cars to deal with the financial situation in the first place?

Would be a shame if they cut it. But then again you have to do a cost benefit analysi: to keep or to shut down. Over all this is a defensive strategy on two points, it is both divestiture and a retrenchment. Close or sell off the business segment or, reduce the production, layoff employees and only focus on top products.

I say let them shut it down. I have my Z the fair market value for the car will only increase. It is hard to find a reliable, affordable, powerful, high reving car that is a 6 speed.

Since I am not in the market for a Z, Nissan can do as they please. I am happy I bought it when I did and I am still happy that it runs like new. I also overheard that the Camaro's are on their way out, again I don't care.

I couldn’t agree more. Who cares if they make a new Z or not? It won’t change the fact that I’m happy with the Z I have. It’s bought and payed for and it’s not going anywhere. And no matter what NISSAN does, the 370Z is definitely the last truly analog NA Japanese sports car they will ever make. Even if NISSAN were to make a new Z, it would not be what everyone hopes for. Probably a hybrid or electric Mercedes, Renault, Mitsubishi crossover monstrosity with a lot of bells and whistles and no soul.

I agree with most of what you say but the Z is not an analog car. Does it carry 2 features that give it more feel??? Yes. You have hydraulic steering and a handbrake. One helps with feedback and minimizing that dead spot u feel in electric power steering. The next only matters if you drift? The handbrake.

The Z is still dominated by VDC, ABS, LIMP MODE CUT OFF, Navigation systems, etc..
Yes not too many hydraulic steer except for the Mercedes Benz AMG GTS and the Subaru WRX STi.
And handbrakes are getting rare but BMW Subaru Toyota and a few other sports brands kept the handbrake for enthusiasts.

I didnt keep my Z but I thought I would. I play with the idea still of buying a Nismo... but the reason I moved on and why people care about the next Z etc. Cuz we enjoy the progression.

Look at corvette. They just went mid engine after 40+ yrs of mid engine R&D. That's just amazing.
f people all thought like you? Nissan would still be selling the Datsun 240z instead of the one you love right now!

I thi k even if they didnt change the car itself? Updating the dash materials stereo azz nd nav would have kept it relevant in terms of sales. I know that sales wouldn't be spectacular but probably close to double. And being the Z spent a lot of years as a parts bin car. It wasn't gonna cost that much for updates.
