Yeah I did some research to this now, seems we only talk in RON which means Research Octane Number.
In the US they speak of AKI or PON which means Pump Octane Number.

So my 98 which I use is the same as the US 93 Octane

Is that available at every Shell station? I don't think I've seen it before.

Figure 12,000 miles a year, divided by an average of 20 miles to the gallon is 600 gallons of gas a year. Average of twenty cents difference between the 87 and 91, where I live, and you'll spend approx. $120 a year more on the 91. Ten dollars a month to use the fuel the manufacturer suggests equals no-brainer. (Assuming I didn't screw up the math.)

Can I suggest you READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL? You wanna put cheap fuel in a high-performance sports car (why did you even buy it?) go right ahead , just please don't post here in a few weeks telling us about your blown engine and how your dealer was a creep and didn't warranty an $8000 engine replacement. Sorry to be so harsh, but dude...what is it an extra $2 a tankful?

Octane rating tips
Using unleaded gasoline with an octane
rating lower than recommended above can
cause persistent, heavy spark knock.
(Spark knock is a metallic rapping noise.)
If severe, this can lead to engine damage.
If you detect a persistent heavy spark
knock even when using gasoline of the
stated octane rating, or if you hear steady
spark knock while holding a steady speed
on level roads, have a NISSAN dealer
correct the condition. Failure to correct
the condition is misuse of the vehicle, for
which NISSAN is not responsible.

According to my GasCubby app I'm averaging $2.76/gal for 93 octane premium. I'm at a total of $942.05 spent on fuel so far for 6,397 miles. If I were to knock off roughly 30 cents/gal to switch to 87 octane I would've saved $102. It's roughly a 10% change, well worth it.

For me anyways, I find it very obvious when a car is running higher octane gas. I've run it ever since I was 18 in everything I've owned including a 71 c10, 87 accord, 95 dodge spirit, 97 240sx, and now my Z. I cringe every time I hear a car that's driving around pinging like crazy, but people are gonna do it. In a van or work truck or Kia, go for it. If you're driving a sports car or a turbo vehicle you should be running premium, or you're just asking for at least 10% less car.

87 wont blow an engine but he will never get the full power our engines can push out.

I use 93 premium everytime...Not worth using the lower grade gas.

I bet a Mustang GT uses 87 octane

I'm half way through my second tank now. It is Shell 93. I prefer either Shell or Chevron, never Exxon, Texaco in a pinch.

I'm pretty sure my first "free" tank from the dealer was either 89 or lower octane, or just of marginal quality. Either that, or my ECU is finally dialing me in. The Roadster is running smoother and stronger now...

My first car was a 2003 350z and my second one was a 2007 350z and now i have a nismo 370z. Since my very first car until now I have only ever used Chevron 91 or 93 depending on were i was. Even if i was super broke and couldnt fill my tank all the way up, i still used the good stuff and would fill it up as much as i could. I mean come on man you got a 370z not some Mustang. And really she is worth it. I mean that is why you got her in the first place so treat her right and she will be good to you
