Default 2017 370Z - One Year Review

On Dec 28, 2017, my 2017 370Z Coup became one year old.

First, my car didn't have floor mats or mud guards and the dealer didn't even have them. So, I bought them from Amazon.

Second, the noise from the trunk was too much. I know that sports cars with low profile tires will have a lot of noise compared to sedans. However, the noise from the trunk was a little too much. I bought (Metra SSTKT Ballistic Sound Dampening Trunk Kit) from Amazon and applied them to the trunk. The noise was reduced dramatically. This was an extremely good purchase.

Third, the brake pads became noisy. I took the car to the Nissan dealer at least 3 times for cleaning. But, with a couple of days, the noise returns. I finally replaced the brake pads at the dealer and the noise was gone. Before this Z, I've only driven sedans. I'm guessing brakes in sports car wear a lot faster than sedans. Also, I should mention that I've put 52000 km (32300 miles) on my car during 2017! I know that is WAY too much. But, this is my daily driver and I do drive long distances from north to central to east of the country. The Z car is definitely reliable.

Fourth, performance enhancement. I bought the following 2 mods from (Concept Z Performance):

* Motordyne M370 Intake Manifold
* AEM Short Cold Air Intake

I installed both at the Nissan Dealer on Dec 26. There was a minor hiccup. However, the sound of the engine changed and become much better - more like a sports car engine should sound. I like it!

I'll tune the car after I get my final mod (Motordyne Shockwave E370 Catback Exhaust System) from Concept Z Performance, probably around Sept 2018.

After one year of driving this car, I can emphatically say that I love my Z.

Wow, congrats!
My one year anniversary will be in 8 days. Made only 16kkm.

With normal driving I would expect the Z's brakes to wear less than the cheap stuff you get nowadays on econoboxes. My Focus' brakes (all of it) had to be replaced at 65kkm. A Fiesta in our family at 55kkm!

Did you keep your warranty when you installed the parts at the dealer?

can you expand upon "trunk noise" ....

my 17 is solid as a rock and no rattles, no vibrations, no "trunk noise"

i'm beyond impressed with my 17. blew away my expectations.

I think he’s referring to the road noise and debris hitting the fender well that’s really noticeable. It bothers some more than others. I didn’t really pay it any attention but had a couple passengers mention it.

Nice first year review.

I just wanted to say, about the trunk noise... If you add material to the trunk to quiet the "noise" you may loose the sportiness of the Z in the process. In a sedan it is made to be comfortable, in a sports car it is made to be fun. A sedan will have a lot more quiet as a sports car will not. Nissan wanted to keep these cars as light as possible, hense the lack of sound deadening.

As I've mentioned in another thread a while back, just replacing the original rear Bridgestones with Continental Extreme Contacts made a considerable reduction in road noise on most asphalt roads/highways, although there are some asphalt road surfaces that still come through loud and clear. But I'm very pleased with the overall noise reduction.

I hope so. At least, nobody at the dealer's garage mentioned anything regarding the warranty. The warranty is 3 years or 100,000 KM. I'll most likely hit the 100K mark during 2018. I'm already at 53K now :-)

The rear tires are already showing some signs of wear. I'll replace them mid 2018. Not sure which brand to get.

The Motordyne exhaust will be a great addition to your mod list. Lots of great looking Z's come out of the Middle East btw.

Could you explain where you applied the sound deadening in the trunk? Mainly on the sides/fenders? Whole trunk? The highway I commute is super loud to drive on and may do the same.

I applied it to the whole of the trunk. First, I removed all the carpets, the bose speaker, and the spare tire until there was nothing but the bare metal and some wiring. Second, I applied the sound deadening material to the whole of the trunk. The stuff comes in small square pieces; you remove the plastic wrap from the bottom of each square and then stick it on the trunk.

It really made a difference in reducing the level of noise coming through the trunk. This is one purchase that I'm glad I made.
