There would be no point to putting a single chain on the front and back of the engine - the torque differences between the front and rear of the engine (due to crankshaft/camshaft flex) would stretch the chain eventually.
you are correct about what i meant when i said double chain.


now.... this is a V-6, V. typically it is not 1 large chain that handles both halves of the motor. a lot of cars (Z32s if i remember correctly) have a chain (double chain) in the front of the motor for 3 of the cyls and another chain (double chain) in the back for the other 3 cyls.
