There's a solid chance this thread is older than your car.

I think I am the one that revived this thread. Unfortunately I'm having what sounds like the same exact problem as "zilent_jay". I should hear back today whether or not the sprocket fixes the problem. If it does... I'll be following in zilent_jay's footsteps and doing an oil consumption test in 1,000 miles. I've been driving an Altima with stock radio and sh**ty handling for the past week.
I think that's been the hardest part of the whole ordeal. That, and seeing my car's engine torn apart in order to replace a magic sprocket that is somehow the cause of all my problems... even though something had to make it go bad. (i.e. oil consumption most likely) Will post when I find out more! |

So I got my car back and everything is running well. Looks like the sprocket was the cause of the problem. Need to bring the car back in 1,000 miles to see if I have an oil consumption problem and find out whether or not that was the cause of the bad sprocket.

So I took my car in for its 1,000 mile oil consumption test. It failed miserably! Oil was 10mm down or something like that. The car is a 2009 370z Touring with only 47k on it and it needs a new short block. It's been in the shop for over a week now. They're basically tearing everything out and putting it all back together again. I'm really not going to trust this vehicle once I get it back. I'm basically driving it straight to another dealer to trade it in. The sad part is that Nissan will not even extend my warranty. I'm thinking about calling corporate to see what they can do. A 3 yr old car needing a new engine sounds like a bit of bullsh** to me. Funny thing is that the service department told me another Z owner just took his car into the shop for the same exact problem... only it was a 2006 350z. You would think after all of these years... maybe Nissan would design an engine that does not have oil consumption issues.

Looks like this thread was revived. Not sure if everyone has figured this out but to chime in, to me it sounds like a MAFS issue.
