Interesting adventure, that everybodies nightmare and you just went through I stopped by a dealership on Sat and asked them politely," is it customary for this dealship to offer complimenery first oil change". I read where a lot of members got their first change for free, so way not try. I have two more dealers to visit before I give up and just do my own change next week.

Mods - if you want to move this to the engine section that would be cool. I'm going to update this thread as things progress to document my adventure, but in the meantime it's not my intent to discourage anyone.

So another update...

They just called and said they canceled the order on the short block.

Nissan wants to capture the entire engine and figure out what went wrong. I would LOVE to be privy to what they find, but considering the engineers are all probably Japanese, I doubt that will ever happen. They just put in an order for a complete long block today. They have no idea where it's coming from so it may be a while.

...to be continued...

Hey Zilent_Jay,

I live in the UK, and have a 09 370z with 9900 miles on it. And guess what? i have experienced exactly the same as what you have.

about a month ago, the car displayed a CEL, and put me into 3.5k limp mode. I took it to the nissan dealers imediatly to have a look at.. and only today has the car been fixed (should be picking it up in 30 minutes or so).

the CEL's were, missfire, and timing errors.

The dealer replaced a valve solonoid first, this didnt fix the problem, they were asked to check oil preasure and the timing chain.. none of this looked at fault. They then got a head nissan tech in the UK to come and inspect the car, and he said the fault was the sprocket on one of the banks. This was replaced yesterday, and has fixed it.

Im now worried about the oil issues, im going to mention this to my dealer today!

Hows your situation going? did they replace the long block?

Red6spd, that goes 4 me too ... this **** is too worrying 4 us i guess ...

Zilent_jay, good luck with the car and hope everything works out perfectly ... But if i were u, i would throw the car in the dealers face ... u bought a new car and problems start 2 show up ... the way they r dealing with u, its not professional at all. ...
ur car is under warranty, let them bust their A**es 2 fix it ... and if ur not too comfortable with it, let them give u a new one ...

Besides, wen some1 buys a new car, it doesnt mean u have 2 check on it every week ... the reason y u r paying more 2 buy a new car and not a used one, is to avoid the troublesome and **** ...

I hope oil consumptions isn't an issue for the 3.7L. Since the 3.5 L VQ came out there have been reports of excessive oil consumption on the Maxima forums and G35. Especially for years 2002-2003. I was hoping these issues were gone, but maybe not!

I'm not sure it is with the 3.7L... my car has barely used any oil, it's still on the factory stuff with 6000 km on it...

will - sounds like you're having the same issues.

I just got a call today and the long block has finally arrived. I'm going to drop the car off after work Monday and leave it with them for a few days while they do the swap.

i had mine hit limp mode a few months ago when i stalled it. I just hit the start button til it started back up, pulled into the street and it did it. I pulled over down the road and checked everything over for about 5 min and started it back up. Been fine ever since

There are other possible causes of the car going into limp mode. If I were you, I would want to get to the bottom of what caused it. Typically the ECU isn't going to put the car into limp mode because everything is fine.

I would keep a close eye on your oil levels regardless.

So I dropped the car off Monday evening. Got an update that the car should be ready for pick up this coming Monday. I'll post an update then.

Just in the past week or two, I've had 3 friends of mine (who aren't really car people) tell me about their friend or relative that has had the exact same problem with either the G37 or the 370z. Seems this issue is a little more widespread than a lot of people want to believe.

I got the car back, so the break-in on the new engine begins.

So far, everything is fine with the swap... got my low end torque back..... Will monitor for the same oil consumption issue...

Hope its fixed for you mate.

Mines done about 900 miles since the replacement sprocket, so im going to check the oil usage at 1000 miles, see if mines got a drinking problem.

Turns out I have the exact same problem. Car is bucking during acceleration... lucky if I can get it up to 40mph without the engine bucking like a horse and slowing down to 10-20mph. I'm at the stage where the sprocket is being replaced. I'm expecting even if this does solve the short-term problem... odds are I have the oil consumption problem. Oil was abnormally low when I brought it in. Still under powertrain warrantl so it sounds like I too may be forced to swap out the engine on a 2009 370z. This is crazy... not even 3 years old!
